It was a cold and rainy night when Mother and I entered our new house for the first time. We moved out in a hurry so we didn't have the chance to examine the house before. In Mother's opinion, it was a little bit creepy, with its big black door at the entrance and the old furniture still in place, she said that it gave her an eerie feeling. But I loved it.
Mother wouldn't tell me the reason we changed house, she said that it was to get a change of air, but Jessy told me not to believe her. I trust Jessy more than Mother, because Jessy is my age and I see no reason for her to lie to me. Plus Mother always says that Jessy is not here anymore, but I know she's lying again, because Jessy is always with me, now, she's a teddy bear, but before, she was a human, just like me.
After getting installed in the new house, Mother had a phone call, she looked at the caller with anxiousness before relaxing and picking up, walking in the kitchen and closing the door behind her. Jessy told me to go and listen to what Mother was saying, so I put my ear against the door. I couldn't hear very well, but I managed to get some things out.
"Yes, I know... No, Madison thinks... Jessy.... I know ... must be traumatizing ... really horrible..."
That's when Jessy opened her, supposed to be stitched, mouth and started screaming. I don't understand. What happened? Why are you reacting this way? What did I do?
Tears started to stroll down my face at a rapid pace. Mother do not know me well enough to understand that I was crying for a specific reason, so she tried to comfort me, thinking that I hurt myself somewhere and I played along.
At least, that had gotten Jessy to stop screaming, now she just looked at me, like a normal teddy bear.
After that, Jessy stopped talking to me. I knew she was still in the teddy bear, but she wouldn't respond to me. I felt extremely mad at her, but mother taught me patience and calm. So I held it in.
It was well after my bedtime, the next day, that I had real proof that Jessy was in the teddy. Because it was looking at me in the middle of the night. I had put her outside my room because she had stopped talking and playing with me, but she had found her way in. I was so happy, because I thought that this meant that we could play again, just like before.
But I was wrong, in the hand-paw of Jessy, there was a knife. My happiness was ripped away from me as fast as it had come. And I remembered, once again, the events of the week before mother and I moved.
I jumped on Jessy and ripped the knife from her hand. She sounded surprised, surely not thinking that I would react this fast. The moment I had the knife in hand, I stabbed her once in the chest. Blood flowed out of her body as I could feel her starting to feel tired.
As I watched her bleed, I thought about all those nights ago, when I had stabbed her, back when she was a child, and not a bear. I still remember the feeling of cutting her open and taking out her heart and brain, and stuffed them inside the teddy bear that just tried to kill me. Her soul had clung onto the plush, scared to disappear. And I had kept her, to be my friend forever, just like she promised, she didn't need a human body to be my friend. But, as I took the organs out of the teddy bear, I stopped smiling.
"Looks like I'll have to find a new friend. This one wasn't the best."
