I ~ ALWAYS ON MY MIND

'But I was full of a silence I didn't know how to break.' ~ Marya Hornbacher

As school let out for the summer Adeline already had made plans to account for half of it. She'd spend some time catching up with her sister about her second year, things they'd failed or forgotten to tell each other throughout the year, they'd agree not to tell their mother about all the unusual shit going on like they did last year and they'd buy some new plants for the garden. She'd exchange letters to Fred and George about how much she missed them and new prank ideas she'd cooked up until she arrived at The Burrow as arranged, then she'd do whatever random stuff Charles, her step father, had been planning while they were away.

But as Del was quickly finding out this summer, not everything goes to plan. See Adeline and Ruby had stayed at Hogwarts for Christmas with the Weasleys, Willow and Charles hadn't put up much of a fight about it which although out of character seemed nothing to dwell over, so they hadn't seen their mother in almost a year, which apparently is enough time to have a secret baby that no one thought to tell the other two occupants of the house about. This may seem bad enough as it is, but your mistaken, the pair of once again parents weren't coping, at all, Charles had turned to a bottle for relief and Willow had turned to a few highs here and there, which gradually became a lot more often, Adeline couldn't just sit by and watch, so she had taken on the household responsibilities including her new baby brother, Oliver, incase you were interested.

That was how she spent her summer, cooking, cleaning, night feeds, nappies and the hardest task of all, trying to convince Ruby she had to go back to school. 'You're not going back, I'm not going on my own and leaving you here like this, I've already told you Del,' see Ruby Bloom was many things and stubborn was one of them, 'Ruby I've told you time and time again you are going back, I'm fine I can handle things here what I can't handle is you dropping out of bloody school and getting the blame, she'll be relentless and you know it.'

Willow Bloom may idly sit by and let her daughter do her job, she may hold no authority in the household anymore, but she'll make sure Adeline knows when she's fucking up, it'll be all she'll talk about actually, and letting Ruby drop out would be a major fuck up and she'd simply never hear the end of it.

Just as Adeline had finished changing Oliver and was about to recite her daily, 'You'll be going back to school Ruby Bloom wether it be the last thing you do' speech a familiar owl flew through the window, 'See, Del if I go back without you, they're going to know somethings wrong they'll cause a ridiculous amount of trouble, hound me to tell them something which you won't let me, and probably end up getting themselves bloody expelled,' Ruby may have had a point but Adeline wasn't going to admit it, 'Rubes I can't go back you know that there's too much going on here, I can't leave Oliver, I can't leave mam and your dad, I'll write Dumbledore if I have to, fill him in on what's going on and ask if i can join you once things are settled, please Ruby both our educations don't need to suffer,'

'Maybe,' was Ruby's only response as she began to walk away until she turned around and Adeline thought she might just cry with frustration if they kept having this argument, only what came out of her mouth was far worse, 'Are you actually ever going to reply to any of those letters?' As Adeline tried to think of a response her sister strutted out the room, here's the thing, Fred and George had been constantly writing her, which she usually loved but things were different now she truly was struggling, she was in no way herself which isn't that bad really but Adeline could not accept help even if it was encrusted in diamonds and presented on a silver platter. The Weasleys were good people, the best people even, and she knew they'd want to help or at least support her and she knew she couldn't let that happen, so she did what she figured she had inherited from her father, she ignored them.
