She had a full sleeve of tattoos. Not something you'd see in a typical highschool. She wasn't a typical teen though. When she moved here with her dad. His one condition of moving in with him, was to finish highschool. She planned on dropping out her senior year. But she'd rather live with her dad, and go to school, then live with her mom, and her new husband.
"Ugh, Samantha, tattoos, really? What did your mom get you into?"
"Sam…"
She had her suitcase in hand, she looked down at her arm. And have her dad a shit eating grin.
"Right-"
"And the piercings, really?"
"It's not a big deal pops."
She had a septum piercing, and three ear piercings on both ears. Her scruffy shoulder length hair fell over her eyes in curly bangs.
"Whatever, you're rooms upstairs. First to the right."
"Uh, hey."
"Yeah?"
"Thanks for letting me stay. Things were getting rough back there, so I really appreciate it."
He smiled softly. That smile she remembered from when she was young.
"Of course. You're my daughter. I know how your mother is."
She smiled, and headed up to her room.
"My girlfriend is bringing some dinner later, any preferences?"
"No, anything you guys want. Thanks."
She walked into the room. There was a full sized bed in the corner, a dresser, closet, and her own bathroom. She smiled. Her very own bathroom. She had to share with her "Step Dad's" three boys. It was awful.
She collapsed on the bed.
She had school in the morning. She passed out, until her dad knocked on her door.
"Sam…? Dinners here."
She moved her face, from where it was planted in the blankets. A pool of drool formed.
"Christ. Gross." She wiped her face, and got up. She walked over to the door, and opened it.
"Were you just asleep?"
"Mmhmm, long drive."
"Right…. You still got my old car, huh?"
"Yeah."
"Good old Impala. You're gonna turn heads in this town with that car."
"I saved up some money back in Chicago, and got her a new paint job."
"Same color, but she needed some tlc."
"I'll have to take a look tomorrow before work."
"I took good care of her, I promise."
"I know you did. That's why I gave it to you when I left."
"Well, thank you. I'd stay in that car when shit got rough. But when you reached out, it was a life saver."
"You really stay in the car? Why didn't you say anything to me."
"I don't know. I figured I'd just wait it out, and move in with some friends."
"I don't know how she got custody."
"Neither do I."
"Well, no matter now, come meet Jenny. She's been really wanting to meet you."
