Chapter 1:
Birthday
+Zayn+
There was no reason for me feeling so happy today--- I wasn't. I feel old. Twenty years of life and graduation is next year. I was generally held back one year of kindergarten since mom didn't think I was mature enough to gradually go to the next grade. I had good grades, yes--- but social concerns and emotional concerns. Sigh.
I woke up when I heard a knock to the door.
"Come in," I moaned.
In came a quiet, yet smiling Jake as he held a vanilla cupcake with rainbow sprinkles on the white swirled snow icing. He is so optimistic--- not that it's annoying, just amazes me. Even the smallest of conflict, he still smiles. Like two weeks ago, a teenager hit his bumper slightly--- being reckless.
"Oh! Sorry sir--- I will pay for it! I promise," the kid had said.
"Don't worry, just a scratch. I'll take care of it. Make sure you get home safe, all right?"
"Yes sir."
Unreal--- I know. But that's just who Jake is.
I watched as Jake closed the door and approached my bed, singing. "Happy birthday, happy birthday--- happy twentieth to you," he sung.
It's a weird birthday song--- but ever since I was a kid, Dad would say that traditional things were a load of bull and not surprising. "Who cares for regular party songs?" dad once scoffed. "Let's do a different little tune."
If you happened to ask--- that was quite offensive to mom.
She liked to stay in regular, never over the limit. That kind of thing carried around me sometimes--- but most of the things I do come from my dad. Not really. That's Jake.
I sat up and looked at the blazing fire on the candle. "Make a wish...my twenty year old brother," Jake seemingly teased. I rolled my eyes as he chuckled. "But seriously--- this candle light is going to melt the icing. Don't want that, do you?"
I gently blew out the fire--- not wanting to close my eyes as I made my wish. "Yay!" he cheered with a big childish grin. He placed the cupcake down on my dresser beside me and ruffled my hair. He walked out of my room and closed the door behind. I just sighed and reached for my cupcake.
Bite.
Chew.
Swallow.
It was good--- but I wasn't interested. I stood up and tossed it into my trashcan--- burying it underneath the other trash in the can. I stood straight and sighed. I bit the corner of my lip, thinking about what today may provide for me. Liam's gone, Harry and Louis are doing whatever--- I need someone to actually talk to. Not Jake.
I decided to get prepared for school. It was the least I could do for myself. The humid air swirled around in my room and I breathed it in. It was a horrid thing to do. The minute I did it, I was choking it out--- it felt like I was being smothered with a pillow when the air came out. More heat.
I managed to get together when I stripped my clothes off, wrapped in a towel and left the room. I walked into the bathroom and took my shower. Afterwards, I dried my skin and when I did--- I looked into the bathroom mirror. I tried to find wrinkles or anything like that on my face. Nothing. Good.
