Harry..." Hermione choked out, though she didn't know what to say. She just kissed him!
Her mind was buzzing like a swarm of bees. Did she really mean to do that?
She stared into Harry's green eyes for the longest time. After what seemed like lifetimes, Harry sighed and stood up.
"Goodnight, Hermione," he said quietly, squeezing her hand gently. She smiled at him as he began to walk towards the boys' dormitory.
"Harry," her voice made Harry turn back around. "I'm sorry."
Harry walked back over to her, placing his hand on her shoulder.
"Don't be," he smiled, leaning down and planting a small kiss on her forehead.
Hermione stared after him, her heart lifted a little. He wasn't mad!
She then headed towards her own dormitory with a huge smile on her face.
~
The next morning, Hermione awoke early. The sun was only just beginning to appear over the mountains, shining an orange glow over the dark red carpets of the girl's dormitory.
Hermione stretched before climbing out of bed, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. Most of the girls were still sound asleep, though some beds were empty. She quickly got dressed in her normal school robes, then sleepily made her way down the staircase. The common room was empty as Hermione sat down on one of the dark red couches. The fire was only a pile of ashes, leaving the room dark.
Hermione pulled out The Standard Book of Spells, Grade Four, and began reading. She was almost positive that she was the only Gryffindor that actually read it, but that didn't stop her. She actually found it interesting, and usually couldn't stop herself from reading it.
Then, however, her mind was elsewhere as her eyes blankly scanned across the small letters. Her mind was racing with thoughts of Harry and the night before. Had it been real, or only just a sick dream? She could remember the feel of his soft, yet slightly chapped, lips against hers. Though it was only for a mere second, it was possibly the best moment Hermione has had.
She never realized it before; she was falling for Harry Potter.
Hermione had always thought her romantic feelings were towards Ron, and maybe they had been at some point. But, she knew deep down that she had always fancied Harry.
She was pulled from her thoughts as footsteps filled the room. She looked up from her book to see Harry walking down the staircase that led to the boy's dormitory. A blushed appeared on his face as his eyes met Hermione's. She could feel heat rushing to her cheeks as well, and quickly looked back down at her book.
"Morning, 'Mione," said Harry awkwardly. He took a seat next to her, though leaving space between them. Hermione couldn't help but feel disappointed at this.
"Good morning," she said in a friendly tone. She pretended to be reading her book, but she really couldn't care less about reading at that moment.
(A/N: OMG THAT SOUNDED SO UNLIKE HERMIONE HAHAHAH)
"Sleep well?" Harry asked. His voice was cheerful, unlike his usual self these days, which made Hermione confused.
She nodded, chancing a look towards him. Sure enough, his eyes were on her. The moment his eyes met her's, she couldn't take it anymore. She set down her book and turned to face him.
"Harry-"
She was interrupted by two more sets of footsteps. She turned to see Fred and George entering the common room.
"Oi, we knew we heard voices in here," said Fred cheerfully.
"What're you two doing up so early?" George asked, avoiding eye contact with Harry. The twins had tried their own aging potion against the Goblet, but failed miserably.
Hermione shrugged. This wasn't abnormal for her. She would usually wake at sunrise, and use the time of peace to study in the common room.
"Well, we're off to-" George got cut off by his brother elbowing him in the ribs. "Bye!"
Hermione watched as the twins exited the common room.
"Don't get in trouble!" she called after them. "You're mother will have your heads if you do!"
"Hermione?" Harry's voice made her turn to look at him. His green eyes were full of fear and sadness, though she didn't know why.
"Yeah?"
"About last night-" Harry sighed, obviously lost for words. "What... happened?"
Hermione pursed her lips, "I dunno Harry."
~
Harry sat in the courtyard, a book in his lap. Students from Hogwarts along with Durmstrang and Beauxbatons flourished around him, though he sat alone. Once in a while, he would get a dirty look shot at him, or even a rude hand gesture. He tried to ignore them, but it was hard.
Since earlier that morning him and Hermione- whom he really wished was beside him at that moment- had been on non-speaking terms.
His thoughts flashed back to the night before. He remembered the feeling of her soft lips against his, and the feeling of pleasure burn in the pit of his stomach.
Harry was brought back into reality as Hermione sat down next to him. He couldn't help the smile that spread across his face as their bare arms brushed against each other.
Hermione smiled slightly at him as she opened her book and began reading. Harry's sudden happiness disappeared. He didn't understand why they were talking, and he hated it.
He absentmindedly stared at Cho Chang- the Ravenclaw seeker- entered the courtyard with a group of her friends. Harry watched as the pretty Asian girl sat down on a bench opposite of him, deep in conversation with her friends.
He felt a nudge in his ribs, and turned to see Hermione looking at him.
"You're staring," she sighed. Her eyes were filled with some unknown emotion that Harry couldn't recognize. He pursed his lips and grabbed her hand, entwining his fingers with hers.
"I'm sorry," he said quietly.
Hermione closed her book, "for what?"
Harry shrugged, staring into her eyes. Their golden color had come to be one of Harry's favorites. Every time he was even near her, he found himself looking into the eyes he had come to love.
Harry sighed as a group of Hufflepuffs passed by him, yelling, "Potter, you cheat!"
Hermione rubbed his hand with her finger, "Don't listen to them, Harry."
"How can I not? It's all I ever hear now!" snapped Harry, prying his hand away from hers. He immediately felt guilty as he saw the amount of hurt in her eyes.
"It'll blow over," she muttered, looking at the ground. "Just know that I will be by your side through all of his, okay?"
Harry smiled, "Thanks, 'Mione." He grabbed her hand and brought it against his lips, kissing it softly.
