Windracer yelled out as she was thrown against the wall by an infuriated Kestrel. It was time for her dragon-fighting class, and it was going just as she expected.
"Fight back!" the SkyWing yelled out, her talons swiping dangerously close to her student's chest.
Windracer gulped nervously. "Well, maybe if you tried to be a little less violent, I could... OW!" She cried out in pain as Kestrel's back left paw stomped down on her tail. "You said stomping tails was cheating!"
"I'm your teacher," Kestrel snarled. "Nothing I do is cheating!" She swung her tail at her, yelling out instructions. "Roll right! Use your fire!"
Windracer glared up at the SkyWing that was pinning her down. She always failed at the dragon-fighting classes. It was because Kestrel was a jerk and she always yelled and sprayed fire at them.
"Come on! Fight you little brat, you're a SkyWing, so fight like one!" her teacher snarled, hissing and flexing her sharp claws. Windracer wriggled out from underneath of her talons. She then took a deep breath and readied her claws and prepared to use her fire. With a deep breath, Windracer shot out the stream of fire, but like usual, it just went right over her teacher's head, and it burned the stalagmites over Windracer's head and all around her.
"Oh, three moons, not again!" Windracer cried out, leaping away from the quickly falling stalagmites. The young hybrid hissed in frustration and lashed her tail angrily from left to right. Windracer was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't notice when she was grabbed from behind. Kestrel hissed and grabbed her student by the wings. Windracer let out a screech of pain as she was thrown harshly against the stone wall.
"Are all half-breeds this slow and stupid? Stand up and fight like a warrior!" the SkyWing grumbled, smoke curling around her mouth as she stared down at Windracer. Windracer stumbled to her talons, ducking and rolling away from the fire blasts. She tried as best as she could to dodge the blasts, but her wings and tail were scorched by the flames and Windracer let out another screech of pain as she was grabbed once more by the still fuming SkyWing. Windracer then jumped up to one of the higher stalagmites so she was a safe distance away from her teacher. Windracer was panting heavily, her scales ached and her wings and tail felt like they were on fire.
"Get down here and fight like a SkyWing!" she roared, digging her claws into the rocks as she did so. Windracer scowled rolled her dark blue eyes and jumped away from the sharp talons trying to grab her.
But I'm NOT a SkyWing. I'm a NightWing. Well, sort of. Windracer thought defiantly with a small huff. She then jumped onto another stalagmite, narrowly avoiding getting slashed by Kestrel's deadly-sharp claws. Windracer then jumped down behind her for a surprise attack, but she grabbed the young hybrid by the wings and tail. Her wounds flared up in pain and I bit her tongue to keep herself from screaming.
Suddenly, however, Kestrel let out a roar and dropped Windracer. Fire blasted over the young hybrid's head as she hit the floor with a thud.
The red dragon whirled around. Behind her, panting defiantly, was the SeaWing dragonet, Tempest. A red-gold scale was caught between her sharp white teeth. She spat it out and glared at their teacher.
"Stop picking on Windracer," Tempest growled. "Or I'll bite you again." Her deep blue scales shimmered like cobalt glass in the torchlight. The gills in her long neck were pulsing like they always did when she was angry.
"Well, then she can fight with either the lazy RainWing or the timid NightWing." Kestrel grumbled with a low hiss. "Because I'm sure you'll get to choose out on the battlefield." Her tail glowed like embers as she lashed it back and forth. Windracer lowered her head in shame. Kestrel growled and stomped out of the cave with a huff, shooting me one last scathing look over her shoulder. "Class dismissed. I'll mark another failure in your scroll, NightWing."
Once Kestrel had stormed out of the cave, Tempest turned her deep blue eyes on Windracer. She gulped and shuffled her claws while the SeaWing checked her over with a critical eye.
"Are you alright, Windracer?" Tempest asked, her eyes shining with concern as she continued staring at her friend's wings and tail. "Your scales look really irritated, you need to cool them down!" she gently nudged Windracer toward the river as she spoke. "And you really should have more confidence in yourself, Wind." Windracer pouted and blew a raspberry at her. The young hybrid hissed lowly when the icy water touched her still-burning scales. After a few moments of silence, the red-and-black dragonet spoke up in an attempt to break it.
"Citrus isn't lazy, he's just not made for fighting." She said loyally. "And the reason Flashlight is so shy and timid is because of me," Windracer spat bitterly. Tempest began to wet Windracer's scales as she listened to friend's pitiful rambling. She then dunked her head underneath the water and Windracer yelped and spluttered in surprise as her head broke the service.
"You're just like Ermine, Windracer." Tempest remarked once she had finally cleaned the blood and dirt from Windracer's scales. "You're quiet, a bit of a lone wolf, and you love to read scrolls!" she added in a teasing tone. That last remark made Windracer frown and she pouted and shook out her wings after she had climbed out of the freezing cold river.

"How are you feeling, Windracer?" Windracer blinked and looked up from reading her scroll to see the RainWing, Citrus, staring ceriously at her. Windracer blushed and ducked her head.
"I'm feeling a bit better," she told him truthfully. "Thanks for asking, Citrus." She gave him a small smile in thanks. He smiled back and nodded his head with a bright smile forming on his face as he continued to stare at Windracer.
"Well, don't stay up too late, Wind," he told her with a flick of his tail. "You need more rest and your wounds need a bit more time to heal properly," Windracer nodded her head and went back to reading her scroll.
