CHAPTER 3
After a 30 minute drive to my apartment I did not want to get out. It was an awkward car ride, but special at the same time.
"Thank you for driving me home." I turned to him and said.
"Anytime." He smiled. The nervousness could have been cut with a knife. Is he going to ask for my phone number or what? Maybe he didnt think of today like I didnt. I put my hand on the car door and just when I do he puts his hand on the door, "Can I take you out on a date sometime?"
"That would be fun." I replied smiling. I bet I was blushing because he just looked so genuine. I grab a piece of paper and write my phone number on it. "You should call me sometime." I said while handing it to him. I look at him one more time with a dorky nervous smile and stumbled out of the car with butterflies in my stomach.
When I got to my apartment door I looked back, expecting him to be gone only to find him still there. I waved and he waved back. I walked inside and closed the door. I leaned on my door and sighed softly, Smiling and replaying the events of the day. I shook myself out of the daydream and ran into my bedroom to get ready for the dinner. I put on a pretty dress and put some make on just in time for my phone to ring. I answered to find my sister calling. “I hope your on your way!” I heard her screech into the phone.
“I am. I will be there in 15 minutes.”
“Okay drive safe.” She said and I hung up.
It was my dad birthday dinner. We look for any excuse for a get together and catch up. I ran to my car and drove to the restaurant. I was a few minutes late but they only had their drinks so I knew it wasn’t that bad. I sat down in the only seat available, next to my sister, after giving everyone a hug.
Once I sat down, I started talking to everyone and hearing how their days had been. When they asked me how my dad was I didn’t know what to say so I just said that it was good. This was not the time to give them details, not that I want to give my dad and brother details about my dating life. I look down at my phone nervous, just trying to avoid any further questions and I saw that I had a text message from a number that I didn’t recognize. It said, "I hope your day ends better than it started. It's Matt btw."
My parents were both 60 years old and have been married for 42 years. They were part of an arranged marriage by their parents when they were 18 years old and they ended up falling in love.
My mom is a short lady with brown hair. She is quiet, sensitive and kind. Conflict upsets her and makes her cry. She does not mind following my dad if he is leading a situation. She is open-minding and easy to talk too. Flexible and open-minded. Likely to be original and creative. Enjoy the present moment.
My dad is a tall skinny man with barely any hair, for which we make fun of him a lot! He is assertive and outspoken. He is the leader of the family. He is very smart and organized. He worked his way up to become the president of a nationwide company.
My sister is a mother and a wife already. She is 22 and seems to be really happy with how things are going. She is a runner so she is always in shape. Before I went to nursing school we used to run together every morning. Then I lessened to only a few times a week. We had become really close in the past few years and it was great. Erica’s husband is a doctor, his name is Patrick. I think they are so perfect for eachother!
My brothers name is John and he is into computers. I have a hard time finding topics we both like to talk about so sometimes it’s awkward. He is a lot older than me which means it was never easy for us.
After we ate dinner and had dessert. We started to say good-bye.
Erica turns to me and smiles. I give her a face that shows that I know she is up to something. "Pat had a friend from work over the other day."
"That’s great." not really sure what this is getting at.
"He was very nice and very handsome!" She said and winked at me.
"I know what you’re trying and it won’t work!" I said laughing. "I don't need to be set up on a blind date. I'll find someone in my own time."
“Prove it!”
I ignored her and said good-bye to everyone.
“Happy Birthday again dad.” I said while giving him a hug and kiss on the cheek.
I pulled out my phone and texted Matt. “Thanks. I hope you had a good night too.”
