Aonung dragged me to a palm tree, I heard him muttering..

"Nung? What's wrong? Did something happen?" I asked, He looked down to the sand.

"No. My father.. They.. They wish for me to mate with.." Aonung stopped.

"Nung, I don't understand. Why do you hesitate?" I asked him, Lifting up his chin to make him look at me.

"They wish for me to mate with.. With a girl." He blurted out.

I looked at him then the sand.

"So.. So we cannot.. Cannot be together?" I asked him, He sighed.

I felt his hands go to my waist.

"Neteyam.. I want to be with you. But he wants me to mate with this girl.. I think it's because she is Metkayina.." He said slowly, I looked at my hands and then his.

"And I am not." I sighed.

"I don't want to be with this girl.. I don't even know her name!" Aonung told me, I chuckled.

"Wow. Some future mate you are. What's my name?" I asked, teasing, Not expecting him to answer.

"Neteyam Te Suli Tysyek'itan." He whispered, I blushed as his lips got closer to mine.

I thought about the island, my family love this place.. We are safe and well provided.. Aonung's parents could change all of that..

"I have to go." I said quickly.

"What?" Aonung said, I walked away fast.

"I can't talk right now, Aonung.. We can talk tomorrow. I need to check if sivako is safe." I told him.

"Neteyam! What did I do?" He yelled after me.

"Just go home, Aonung!" I hissed.

I saw my family's home and I climbed onto the platform, Leaving Aonung standing in the sand.

My mother greeted me at the door.

"Sivako is asleep, How was your date?" She teased, She didn't know who I went with.. She must've assumed it was a girl.

I sat on my bed, she came next to me, sitting on the ground.

"I don't wanna talk about it Mother."

"Did it go wrong? Did she not feel the same way anymore?" My mother asked, I felt a tear go down my face.

My mother hugged me tight at this sight.

"Neteyam, It's okay.. What happened?" She asked, I pushed the tear away.

"It's not.. It's not a she." I muttered, My mother looked at me with a look that said 'Okay..?'

"I still don't understand." She said, Moving so that we were a bit farther away. "Why would it matter of their gender?"

I looked up at her.

"It's who he is mom.. It's Ao.. Aonung." I mumbled.

"Oh baby.." She put her hand on my face. "Nothing is wrong with that.. If he loves you, Nothing else should matter."

I sighed.

"It does to his parents."
