Chapter 2:
Madison's P.O.V
I'm starting to wonder, if I'll ever find my mate? I mean it's been about a long time since I turned sixteen at least that's how I felt, and I haven't caught a scent or anything that might lead me to him.
The day I actually turned sixteen I imagined that I would find my mate the second I stepped into school or something cliche like that, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be.
If it didn't happen it had to be for a reason, right.
Maybe something better was in store for me.
At the same time though I seem to always think negatively.
What if my mate was dead?
What if never have the great fortune of meeting him?
What would I do then, die of loneliness, or mate with someone else from the pack. Maybe even settle down with a human, and live a normal life.
Why couldn't I have been one of the ordinary girls in my pack who find their mate on their sixteen birthday instead of having to spend almost two lonely years searching for him, well not exactly lonely, I have plenty of incredible friends who keep me company, but still..
"Did you hear what I said?" Chase my best friend and beta of my pack the Moon-lite pack asked raising his eyebrows expectantly.
I blinked a couple of times before I turned to face him. "What, I'm sorry, I didn't. Can you repeat it?" I asked as I gave Chase an apologetic smile.
"I was asking you, if you wanted to be my date, for the Annual Mate Ball?" Chase asked as he scratched the back of his head something that he usually did when he was nervous or embarrassed.
The Annual ball was a dance that was started about ten years ago; that was held every year for mateless people like me and Chase to find our mates.
"I don't know Chase, I'm not really in the mood to party. I think I'll just stay at the pack house."
"Why. Think about it when was the last time that you had any sort of fun?"
"I- we went-."
"Exactly," Chase said.
"I don't feel like socializing. Either way it won't matter if I go or not. It isn't as if I am going to find my mate or anything."
"How can you be so sure if you don't go?" Chase said with a solemn expression.
"Because I've attended that dumb ball twice already, and there has been no sign of my mate, not even a scent."
"Then if you aren't going to look for your mate, then just go as my date, and we can just enjoy ourselves."
"Why should I agree to this?" I said raising my eyebrow's expectantly.
"If you go with me, I'll get your two guards of your back for a week," he said trying to negotiate with me something that usually worked.
"That doesn't really interest me Chase. I don't really have anything important I have to do, so I really could care less if the guards are with me or not."
"Fine, how about we make a bet," Chase proposed.
I sat up straighter in my seat, now this bet thing was actually managing to catch my attention.
"What kind of bet?"
"A race, if you can outrun me to the lake then I will give you anything you ask for, but if I win you have to go as my date."
