Sethan:
I returned to her shop to check if she was back yet as I hadn't any luck at the leech's den. I couldn't find her scent anywhere since the vampire had ascended with her in his arms.
When he disappeared with her...
My claws curled on the pavement and I turned on two feet. I'd managed to calm down somewhat but not enough to go home. I couldn't let my daughter or my wolves see me like this. For one, they'd expect an explanation I couldn't give to them, and two, I was certain I'd order my wolves to hunt down a certain bloodsucker. The moment they realized why, they'd surely turn on me and try to cage me under the grounds that I was likely under the witch's influence.
I wasn't.
And that made things worse.
Now I was beginning to wish I was because there surely wasn't going to be a happily ever after with my so called fated mate if she was not only a witch, but one deranged enough to partake in the sand ring games.
Why does shit like this always happen to me?
I should be used to this.
I don't know why this was bugging me so. I'd made peace to never finding a true mate so fate playing me this way shouldn't be pissing me off this much.
Her lips had been less than an inch away from his and she hadn't pushed him away. Why? Did she have feelings for him? Are you fucking kidding me? When I find him I'll-
This is just the wolf's protective urge at work and your ego. Snap out it Seth.
I paced and debated going for another run when a distinctive scent hit my nose.
Mate, my wolf growled.
I saw him as soon as I saw her.
Blue flecks of drying fae blood streaked her face as if the blood had splattered there and she feebly tried to wipe it away unsuccessfully. It coated her dress in odd places.
Kaitlin hissed at the vampire as she spotted me crossing the street, "See what you did!" The sound of her voice eased my step but I didn't flatter. Did he have to lean in towards her like that?
"Do you need help?" the bloodsucker offered, inches from her ear as he had the audacity to whisper. If he inches any closer to her-
"No. Do not help. You've helped enough. Go home." she snapped but her voice didn't carry the strong edge it had before. She was tried, exhausted and we need to tuck her into bed, my wolf slipped into my consciousness.
No, we fucking don't- I shout back, We're rejecting her remember. I can't do this. She's not one of us and she fought with fae. I searched for knowledge to use as a weapon against my wolf, If we claim her than her actions also become our responsibility. Do you know what that means? We'd be accepting war. Many would die. The weak first. We're not doing this to Maya.
"Gladly," the vampire grumbled and shot up to the sky.
My wolf eased and I was unsure if it was because of what I told him or the vampire leaving. I figured it was the latter. I knew my wolf well. It's not that he didn't love Maya, he was the act now and worry later type.
I focused my eyes on Kaitlin, fully aware I'd been scowling.
Both of her hands flew up in defence, "I swear I only heard about fight club when I turned in the troll. The fae wasn't happy I killed one of them. His brother challenged me."
"Mine," I growled without thinking. She shuddered a hint and stilled as if to hide it. I remembered I was in half form, and while I was one of those who was able to speak in this form, I looked like a fucking monster. I had fur in selected places, claws for hands and feet and worse of all my jaw, it didn't fit right and my mouth hung the slightest open no matter how hard I wanted it to close.
