(y/n's pov)

"yes Mom, everything got packed!" - you

"Are you sure?? I don't want you to get here and realize you left something back in Louisiana"
- your mom

"Everything was put on the moving truck, I promise" - you

"Okay... sweetie I'm so excited for you to get here!" - your mom

"I'm honestly excited to come home. I miss everyone." - you

"Robin and Jimmy are excited to see you too, they said they missed their bonus daughter" - your mom chuckled

Robin and Jimmy, Joe's parents.

Joe as in Joe Burrow, had been my best friend from when I started walking to college graduation. Joe was an insanely good football player so he was drafted into the NFL after college. Luckily for him, he'd be able to move back to Ohio where his parents were, and mine of course. I stayed in Louisiana for work purposes and Joe and I drifted apart.

the thing is, before Joe and I drifted apart I had a secret hidden from him. it was kind of a big deal too. I had a massive crush on Joe, every time we made eye contact I blushed, and every time his hand brushed against mine I'd get butterflies. I planned that I was going to tell him at our joint graduation party but I chickened out.

*flashback*

Joe and I were in the kitchen by ourselves, neither of us liked being the center of attention so we were hiding from the party in the backyard.

"uh Joey, can I tell you something?" - you

"of course-" - joe

the sliding glass door opened and Robin peeked her head in.

"guys get out here! this is your party and everyone is asking where you guys are!" - Robin

"we will be out there in a sec!" - Joe

Robin sighed and retreated to the backyard after she shut the door.

"what'd you wanna tell me?" - joe

"uh never mind.. I forgot" - you

"oh ok, let's go. the quicker we get out there the quicker we get to open our graduation presents!" - Joe grabbed your arm and started pulling you outside

*present day*

I was so close to telling him but chickened out.

now we're barely even friends at this point, I hadn't talked to Joe in half a year.

"sweetie you there?" - your mom snapped you out of your daydream

"oh yeah, sorry I was daydreaming" - you

"you started daydreaming after I mentioned Robin and Jimmy... any chance you're thinking about Joe?" - your mom

"maybe.." - you

my mom was the only person I had told about my crush on Joe, she was the one who told me I should get him alone at our graduation party and tell him.

"he still asks about you, you know" - your mom

"Really? I haven't talked to him in six months.."
- you

"he comes over almost every day and talks to your dad about football. he asks me how you're doing and if I have talked to you lately"
- your mom
