I can hear the sound of heavy footsteps growing louder amidst the chaotic storm. The sound of those steps was none other than the marines and they were chasing a slender figure down a long corridor. The figure runs as fast as they can to get away from their pursuers but eventually meets a dead end. They halt looking for a way to escape there but it was no good, a shout could be heard from behind "There's no use trying to escape now you've been cornered criminal! Surrender now or face the consequences!" Marine said with an angry expression. The figure turned around slowly and only thought to themselves haven't I been punished enough?

~MC'S POV~

In order to explain my current situation, we need to start from the beginning and understand how it all began. It all started a couple of years back in the North Blue on an island named Shares Wood Pickith.

I found myself standing outside in my courtyard on a lovely evening, eagerly anticipating the arrival of someone special. That someone beginning the governor of the island, my father. I eagerly waited for my father to arrive at our estate's gate, filled with excitement about what he had brought for my birthday celebration.

I heard soft footsteps approaching from behind "Oh honey can't you wait inside for your father it's still too early to know if he'll come back today" My mother greeted me with a cheerful smile "I know mama I'm just super excited cuz daddy said he has the best surprise yet!".

Today was my 10th birthday and my father had been on one of his trips to the sister islands for official business with the other governors and governesses of the other islands. You see all the other islands were relatively small, roughly the size of a city. However, the island governed by my father was much larger, approximately six times that size.

Because these islands were so small we did not have a monarch but we were not too small to be considered a town. Thus is why the islands had governors. In most of the islands, the residents would elect their governor except for mine. Long ago it was decided by my ancestors because the island was the largest out of the five they would pass it down to their children. For this reason, my family has been very wealthy for generations.

As I stay waiting there my mother nudged me, cueing me to head inside "Now Annabelle I know you're excited but your father wouldn't want you to wait around so long, besides you haven't eaten yet, hurry along now" Although I wanted to wait around all day for my father to come I did as my mother instructed.

As the staff start to set up the table there was a ruckus coming from the hallway. Loud voices of children could be heard laughing. Those voices were none other than my brother and sister making their way to the dining area.

They're both at the entrance of the doors frantically looking around the room until they lay their eyes on me. They lunged at me tackling me to the ground "Happy birthday big sister!!!" They say so ear-piercingly. The room was filled with laughter that day but what came after would come crashing down on our celebration.

News of my father's death is what followed the night of my birthday. The cries of my siblings could be heard in the corner of my father's office, I stood there stunned by the reality. My mother slowly approached me bending a knee to speak "Annabelle, I know this is a lot to take in but you must stay strong. I want you to listen to me...tomorrow there's going to be some people coming and those people are going to sign some forms" mother's tears were starting to form but she quickly wiped them off.

She rubs the back of my neck continuing "Now these forms you'll be signing...will be official documents to you agreeing to take the mantle of your father...you'll be governesses".

"But why I'm only 10, I-I can't, why won't don't you sign them?" I say, my voice starting to shake

"Oh hun, I can't...only those who have the Blanc blood can inherit the title...but it'll be okay...just because you'll have the title of governess doesn't mean you'll do it alone, you have me helping every step of the way"

"Okay..." I sniffled just a bit louder as there was nothing that could be done. Morning came and as my mother said there were people with documents for me to sign.

"I know this is a lot to take in right now Mrs. Blanc but before young Annabelle signs these forms. There's something we must discuss first" A man in a black hat said holding some documents.

"And what might that be Mr. Durand?" My mother said slightly confused but slightly defensive.

"This isn't anything that's supposed to offend you or your daughter. It's a matter of your daughter's age. Although she's legally allowed to inherit the title, the residents living on the island might not be too happy to hear that a child who just turned 10 will be governing their island. If I could suggest someone to temporarily take the position in your family's stead-"

"No! Are you being serious?! If we had someone we could trust to take the position temporarily on our behalf we would! But I know that the people have grown tired of the Blancs being in power for so long. If I could take the position I would but unfortunately the age-old law doesn't allow it"

"I know Mrs. Blanc but what are we to do then? We can't announce that a 10-year-old Annabelle is going to be governess" Mrs. Durand was starting to sound angry

"Then we lie. Say she's 15. No one will know. Most of the public hasn't even heard anything about my children. Especially when it comes to their ages and even the people who do are of low standings, no one would believe them" My mother's words were harsh but it was true.

Hardly anyone listened to the common folk or the working class unless you were a revolutionary but even they wouldn't bother with a matter like this.

"Very well, allow us to at least train Miss Annabelle about what her position requir-" Mr. Durand was cut off.

"There's no need. Now leave, my daughter has all she needs to be the governess. Put the documents on my husband's desk I'll make sure she signs them but for now, we are in mourning" My mother signaled to all the people in the room to leave.

All of them left one after the other with some leaving quite bitter. Once my mother made sure they were all gone she lowered herself to me "Listen my sweet Annabelle, I know this is a lot to take in but it'll be alright. I'll help guide you to govern the island you won't be alone I promise I'll be there every step of the way".

My mother hugged me tight and gestured for my younger siblings to come in for one too. As she hugged us she leaned in closer to my ear to whisper "Everything will be alright because we're all together" Unfortunately this sentence would not ring to be true for very long.

A year had passed since then and a lot had happened during that duration. My mother had unfortunately gotten into an accident 3 months after me being governess. It had also been 6 months since my 8-year-old brother got sick with an infection. As for my 6-year sister, she had suffered a head injury a while back but only recently succumbed to its consequences. All these, of course, were no accidents nor acts of god but ploys to dimmish my support. I, of course, did not know this at the time until one day I got into an accident with a marine captain where he would end up dead. And I would end up being the accused.

I would end up running from the Marines' grasp and disappear into the night. As I found a place to hide I would end up replaying the scene of the accident in my head. Why? Why did he have to lunge himself at me? If he hadn't done so I wouldn't have had to-I wouldn't have had to stab him. I start to hyperventilate holding onto my knitting needles, the same needles I used to stab the marine. Ever since my father died I had kept the knitting needles he gave to me when I was little close to me.

I had always been interested in fabrics and crafts so he gave me a plethora of gifts relating to that. My mom thought it was below me to try and make costumes for myself but I enjoy it. I had a real talent for the needle, something that would be useful to me and my survival later on.

My days on that island would soon come to an end though. When I grew weary of being chased down, unable to live freely on the island I called my home. I was 13 when I snuck on and boarded a pirate ship headed for the East Blue. This ship had stopped at a particular town, I had chosen to make this town my destination as I feared that I would soon be discovered by the pirates of the ship. This town that I had chosen would be known as Loguetown the same town of the infamous pirate Gol D. Roger.
