The mountains high,
The soaring skies
The village down below
A boy did smile
And laughed a while
For he knew not Death’s shadow
One winter day
The boy did stray
With his trusty bow
While seeking fame
He found no game
But came upon Death’s shadow
He shivered long
Death’s haunting song
Drowned out the lullaby of life
He was so cold
No longer bold
His pain cut like a knife
The wind blew fast,
The snow did blast
As a white shroud hid the road
His weary feet
Turned from the sleet
And entered death’s abode
The villagers looked
Up by the brook
They scurried to and fro
The snows receded
The search succeeded
But would he live the morrow
Life’s light was dim
And fading in him
As Deaths dark shadow grew
But the healers strived
And Death was defied
Till dawn turned the skies blue
The body grew hale
But the soul filled with bale
Scarred with Death’s dark shadow
Fear haunted sleep
The boy did weep
In days clouded by sorrow
He did not play
But wasted away
So scared was he of Death’s shadow
Then a girl fair and sweet
With hair of wheat
Came to live in his uncle's meadow
He gave this girl his love
In passion and in mirth
He grew bold and laughed anew
He took her for his wife
Their love lasted through their life
His fear banished, his joy grew
And he lived well
Many tales did he tell
To the brood of his brood till he was old
He feared not death
With his last breath
He welcomed Death’s dark shadowoO0OooO0Oo---------------------------------------------oO0OooO0Oo
