A blazing fire tears through the lake territories, leaving a trail of destruction and ashes behind. A group of survivors set up camp in what was once RiverClan's land, the spot most undamaged by the fire.
- Icenose, a mild natured RiverClan queen, and her two five moon old kits: calm Redkit and naïve Reedkit.
- Berrytail, a sassy SkyClan warrior.
- Crowshade, a naïve ShadowClan elder.
- Tumblepaw, an adamant ThunderClan medicine cat apprentice.
- Rainpebble, a naughty RiverClan warrior.
- Sassy Grasspaw and modest Stonepaw, apprentices from WindClan and ShadowClan respectively who traveled to RiverClan together.
- Flintclaw, a bold senior ThunderClan warrior.
- Birch, a lax rogue who got caught in the flames and managed to find a way to the hastily set up camp.
Alone and unsure of the fate of the rest of their Clanmates, the small group must figure out what to do next in the destroyed land while StarClan remains silent.
