Ariel's POV:

We got back to the base pretty late. Jacob helped me down out of the truck and back into the base. He sat me down on my bed. "Stay here." He said. He then left then came back with a first aid kit and tried to patch up my leg. "T-that will work." I said. "Thanks." I said. He nodded. We then heard something rustling outside. I was about to get up and check it out but I winced at the pain in my leg. "You stay this time." Jacob said. "I'll check it out." He said. "You sure?" I asked. He nodded. "Ghost, stay here with her." He said. As soon as he left, I fell asleep. I was dreaming about my best friend, how I felt bad about what happened to the walkie talkie she gave me breaking. "No matter what happens, we stay in touch." She said. I could still hear her saying those same words over and over again. "Ariel." A voice said. I woke up. "It was just a raccoon." Jacob said. "Oh ok." I said, in relief. "You can go back to bed now." He said. I looked at him and nodded. There was something off about him for some reason but I didn't know what. But tiredness overcame me and I instantly fell asleep again.

Jacob's POV:

Oh god. What the hell was I doing? I rolled up my sleeve and looked at the bite mark on my forearm. I winced. Ghost started growling at me. I already knew I was dangerous now. "I'm sorry Ariel." I said.

Ariel's POV:

I woke up to Ghost growling and barking at someone. I turned around and looked at Jacob. He was slouched over and flinching a lot. "Jacob, are you ok?" I asked. I started hearing groaning and zombie growling. I gasped a little. "J-Jacob?" I asked. He turned around and lunged at me. I screamed and grabbed an empty glass bottle and smashed him over the head with it. He fell to the floor already in a pool of blood. I covered my mouth. "Oh my god." I said. I knelt down and felt his pulse. He was dead. "Oh god oh god oh god." I sobbed. Ghost started whimpering. I started crying my eyes out. "I'm sorry!" I sobbed. "I'm so sorry!" I cried. The next day, I buried my dead brother outside of the store. I started packing my things. I was leaving to go find other people. I got into the driver seat as Ghost hopped up into the passenger's seat where Jacob used to sit. Ghost whimpered and licked my face. "I'm ok boy." I said. I hit the gas and started driving down the road. I was driving for about two hours. We were in the middle of nowhere on the open road. Then for some reason, Ghost started barking out the window at something. "What's wrong boy?" I asked. Then, a zombie hit the truck. I screamed and started swerving off the road. Ghost hopped out of the window before the truck tumbled over down the road. The last thing I heard was Ghost running over and barking at me.

Unknown Person's POV:

I was just walking along a path that led down a hill until I heard a dog barking I ran over and saw a car crash. "Holy shit." I muttered to myself. I looked over at the dog and then back at the crashed car. Someone's arms were dangling in the drivers seat. It was a girl. I ran over and the dog looked at me and growled. "Hey chill dude, I'm just trying to help her." I said to the dog. Why the hell was I talking to a dog? Don't ask. I knelt down and looked into the car. I saw the girl inside the passenger seat. God she was pretty. I then climbed in and unbuckled the seat belt. I braced her so that she didn't fall on her head, then dragged her out of the car. I looked at the side of her head. It was bleeding really bad. "Hey." I said, shaking her. "Hey are you ok?" I asked. Then I saw her eyes open slightly.

Ariel's POV:

I felt someone shake me awake. "Hey are you ok?" They asked. I opened my eyes and punched the person. I got up and backed away a little. "Who are  you?" I demanded. They looked at me and I felt my heart skip a beat. It was a girl. She was about 5 feet and 7 inches tall with dark skin and had long black curly hair. She was wearing a red hoodie and black ripped jeans. She was really hot. "Jeez, I just saved your ass and all I get in return is a punch in the face." She said, rubbing her jaw from where I hit her. "Who are you?" I asked again. "My name's Chandler." She said. "How do I know you're not one of them?" I asked. "What, a scavenger?" She asked. "Yeah." I said. Ghost came over to my side and growled at Chandler. "Do you see any other people with me?" Chandler asked. I guess she wasn't lying. I sighed and went over to the flipped over truck and grabbed my bag and bat. "What's your name?" Chandler asked. "Why do you care?" I asked. "Well I told you my name." She said. I sighed. "Ariel." I said. "Huh. Pretty name." She said. "Thanks." I said, just taking the compliment. Ghost started growling at something. Me and Chandler looked up the hill and saw a group of scavengers coming up the hill. "Scavengers." I said. "C'mon." Chandler said. I looked at her. "Really?" I asked. "Do you want to get kidnapped?" She asked, holding out her hand. I looked up the hill then back at Chandler. I sighed and took it. We started running away from the hill with Ghost following us.
