chapter 1. moving in

Yuki's POV

I was finally finished and I was sitting on the porch steps when a boy 'bout my age walked up to me. "Hey are you new to the neighborhood. I saw the moving truck leaving so I thought I would say hi." "Well that's sweet but I was actually thinking about getting out my glove and bat so idk if you play baseball." He looked at me with wide eyes and said. "You play baseball. So do I my friends and I that is." He smiled and grabbed my hand. "Come on I'll introduce you to them." "Wait let me tell my mom." I ran to the door and called inside. "Oye mamá, voy a ir a jugar béisbol. (Hey mom I'm gonna go play baseball.)" "Alright let's go." I say and we start walking. While we are walking I realize I don't know his name. "Hey by the way what's your name." "Scotty. Scotty Smalls." I'm Yuki. Yuki Sumura."

He took me to a drug store and we went to the back. When we get back there there's about 7-8 boys. When they see me they start yelling at Scotty. "Why would you bring a girl here." "Yeah-yeah girls can't play baseball." A kid with dark brown eyes looks at me and then comes up to me. "Can you throw a ball." He asked. "Yeah why?" Do you know who babe Ruth is?" "The Colossus of clout of course I know who he is." I laughed at his question and he called the boys in for a talk. When they get done talking he looks at me. "If you can prove you can play baseball then you can hangout with us." "Alright." I said and they took me to a place that looked like an old crow yard. "Kenny go to the pitching mount." The boy who I assume is Kenny went to the pitching mount. The boy from earlier handed me a bat. I walked over to first base and got in my stance. "Hey Benny if she gets a home run hit you have to take us to the fair." Some boy with glasses said. "She won't but ok the boy from earlier said. So his name is Benny then.
Kenny says he'll go easy on me. "That's not such a good idea." I said. He threw the ball and I zeroed in on the ball. It got closer and then.......CRACK. I hit the ball and ran the bases. It turns out I hit the ball over the fence. Benny came up to me and said. "Damn you're good. Now I owe squints and the guys a trip to the fair." "Why thank you Benny boy. I told you I can play." I said smiling." "Hey how'd you know my name's Benny?" "Well the kid with the glasses was talking to you and I heard him call you Benny." I said with a nervous laugh. "Hey but that's not fair I don't know your name." He said acting like a toddler. "Well my name is Yuki. Yuki Sumura." I said with confidence.
