A/N: I wrote most of this in the middle of a really bad anxiety attack so if things are a bit off, that's most likely why. 😅

I smiled down at Josh as I watched him sleep so peacefully in my arms. He looked so calm and innocent. His eyelashes flickered every once in awhile as his lips turned up into a sweet little smile, making me believe that his dreams were for once happy. I brought my hand up to his face to gently caress his cheek, feeling the fresh stubble underneath my touch. My hand began to shake again so I exhaled slowly in an attempt to calm my nerves while trying to only focus on Josh, watching his chest rise and fall slowly with each breath he took.

He stirred slightly and nuzzled his face into my breasts; he always used them as a makeshift pillow instead of using his own. He said that he liked to lay his head on my chest because the sound of my heartbeat soothed him but I highly doubted that his reason was as innocent as he let on. The thought made me giggle quietly and he began to stir again. Afraid to wake him from his peaceful slumber, I moved my hand away from his face but unfortunately, I wasn't fast enough and his tired eyes open slowly to meet my shy gaze.

"Are you ok?" He was slurring his speech as if he was drunk on exhaustion.

"Yeah… I couldn't sleep…" I admitted as I looked over to our alarm clock that read '3:45'.

"Anxiety?" He asked as his lips fell into a frown and I nodded slowly as unstoppable tears began to form in my eyes. No matter what, he could always read me so well.

I had been struggling with bad anxiety for quite awhile and it had only been getting worse as time went on. Each night, I'd just stay up and watch Josh sleep until my exhaustion would finally beat my insomnia and force me to sleep. The sight of him in my arms was the only thing that seemed to calm me in such a frail state. Josh nodded back to my silent answer and wrapped his arms around me before turning us both over so he was now laying on his back and I was now laying on his chest.

"Why did you do that?" I asked, generally confused by his actions.

"I think you deserve some coddling tonight." He answered as a soft smile returned to his slightly chapped lips. He reached down and wiped a stray tear away, that I had failed to notice escaping my eye, from my cheek with his thumb before cupping it with his whole hand, caressing my skin gently. I leaned into his tender touch as I heaved a relaxed sigh, feeling my anxiety finally beginning to melt away.

I looked up into his eyes again and admired the forest of different greens within his irises and thanked God that the moon was bright enough tonight and shined through the small opening in our curtains, allowing me to see them. Though they appeared to be more grey than they usually were in the sun, or in any brighter lighting. But they always looked the prettiest in the sun — like two of the most beautiful gems I have ever seen. I laid my head down on his chest and listened to his heartbeat as he began to gently caress my hair; his hand growing slower with each passing second, letting me know that he was getting tired again. But he continued to fight that exhaustion for me. I knew that he wanted to make sure that I fell asleep first, before he did as well. I don't know what I did to deserve this angel falling out of heaven just to be with me — but whatever I did, I'm glad I did it.

"I love you, Josh." I whispered as my eyelids grew heavier. I nuzzled into his chest and allowed his his warmth to embrace my cold body, relaxing me almost instantly.

"I love you too, Sweetheart." He murmured as his warm hand continued to sooth me with each soft stroke to my hair. Finally, my anxiety had perished and I began to feel somewhat normal again — a feeling I haven't felt in a long time. I closed my eyes and let the soft sounds of his heartbeat lull me to sleep.
