It's been about two hours since the meeting ended. Bachir and his fellow crews have just returned to the UN airfield, preparing their tanks for their first ever match. Judging by their facial expressions though, they seem rather dissapointed. Why you might ask? That's because of the results of the preliminary round when they chose the opponents. When commander Bachir was called and had to chose a number, nobody knew what to expect. They were all so excited about their first ever match, they didn't notice the number Bachir pulled out when it was televised. They were all expecting the opponent to be at least of some equal forces. It wouldn't be the Ooarai since their tanks are still weaker, but they were expecting an opponent like Kuromomine or Pravda, considering how powerful their tanks are. They could at least have a ma tach with some sort of equal firepower, no matter how much underpowered the opponent's vehicles are. What they got though wa the most unxpected opponent ever. The opponent turned out to be the most weak school from Japan, and it is none other than the Anzio high school. But the reason they got uspet wasn't because their opponent is weak, but because this isn't fair. Considering the school uses mostly CV-33 tankettes, this battle is pretty much one sided, considering the heavy firepower of the Babylon tanks and BMP-1s. For them, an equal match is more important than winning or losing it. Since they are using Cold War era tanks and armored vehicles, victory is theirs for sure.
So what did Bachir do as a result, he chose the weakest unit of his club, which is none other than the BMP-1s. True, they do have AA guns mounted on them, but they have the smallest calibre, which can still disable the tankettes, but they would need more bullets to do so. Not much of an equal force, but it's the least Bachir can do, both for his crews and the opponent's. The only thing that doesn't change is using the M-113 ad the command vehicle. If that gets taken out, they lose the match, which is what has been decided in today's match. Pity, the annihilation match would have been much more interesting. At least that way it would have lasted more hours. BUt the rules are rules, and cannot be changed unless the committee decides otherwise.
With all the preparations competed, the crews are ready. All it takes is to wait.
-'So, have you heard of the school's commander?', asks Raniah as she drinks a cup of fresh water from the water truck that has been parked near one of the BMPs. 'I've heard she's been called the reincarnation of Duce by her fellow students'.
-'I don't believe that. To be more honest, I don't want to believe that', replies Bachir as he straigthens his cap and fills his cup with fresh water from the water tanker's hose. 'Personally, I think she's a big airhead. After all, you saw her attitude at the meeting'.
-'And so I did', says Raniah. 'She's acting more like a spoiled kid than anything'.
-'Maybe, but at least she's dedicated when it comes to tank battles', continues Bachir. 'What she lacks is the strategy to win. You've studied their outdated tactics, right?'.
-'And so I did'.
-'Well, let's hope she won't repeat the same mistakes again. I've been up for this match for a long time, so I expect her and her crews to act more smartly this time'.
-'So do I', says Raniah as she drinks another sip of fresh water from the tanker.
Just then, a desert camouflaged Dodge WC-54 truck with the Anzio logo appears on the horizon. That must be Anchovy, the school's commander. She's probably here to inspect her opponent's troops. She did the same thing to Miho when they first joined, so she's probably repeating that for every newcomer that joins the match. Last time she badmouthed Miho and her team by making a mockery of them. She'll probably do the same to provoke Bachir and his crews, or she might not say anything. Well, there's only one way to find out, and that is by just listening. Bachir knows how to keep his cool as long as he isn't provoked. You'd think that after so many years of conlflict, he'd finally have learned to deal with his attitude problem. That's not the case though as he's had anger issues before. Well, now it all depends on him and Anchovy.
