David and Linda stood shoulder to shoulder, a formidable team againstthe manipulative Mark. David's hazel eyes flashed with determination ashe stood tall, ready to do whatever it takes to bring justice for hismother. Linda's blue eyes betrayed her anxiety, but she stood firm, determined to face the consequences of her actions and make amends.
Mark's slicked-back hair was ruffled now, his charming facadecrumbling under the weight of his crimes. His brown eyes dartedaround nervously as he tried to come up with a way out, but David andLinda had him cornered. They wouldn't back down until he was heldaccountable for the damage he's wrought.
"You can't prove anything," Mark spat out, trying to regain control ofthe situation. David and Linda exchanged a look before David spoke up. "Youreally think so? We have evidence that ties you to the embezzlementand fraud concerning my mother's company." Mark paled at the mention of the evidence, but he quickly tried tobrush it off.
"It's all circumstantial. You have no real proof." Linda stepped forward, her voice shaking with emotion. "I trustedyou, Mark. I believed in you. But you used me and my mother for yourown gain." Mark's expression softened for a moment before hardening onceagain. "I did what I had to do to get ahead in this world.
You can't blameme for that." David stepped forward now, his fists clenched tightly at his sides."We can and we will blame you for that. You've caused irreparable44damage to my mother's company and reputation." Mark looked around nervously, feeling trapped. "What do you wantfrom me?" Linda took a deep breath before speaking up.
"We want you toconfess to your crimes and face the consequences of your actions." Mark hesitated for a moment before nodding his head slowly."Okay. I'll confess." David and Linda looked at each other in surprise before noddingtheir heads in agreement. They knew that this was the right thing to do,even if it was difficult.
As Mark began to confess, David felt a weight lift off his shoulders. He had been carrying the burden of his mother's company and theinvestigation for so long that he had forgotten what it felt like to have asense of closure. Linda reached out and took his hand, giving it a gentlesqueeze of support.
For him, there was no greater feeling than that - the feeling of beingloved and understood completely. And as he looked at Karen, he knewthat she felt the same way too. Together, they would overcome anyobstacle that lay ahead.45Chapter 17Justice ServedDavid sat in the courtroom, his hands clasped tightly together, waitingfor the verdict.
He had spent months gathering evidence and building acase to prove Linda's innocence, and now it all came down to thismoment. Linda was sitting next to him, her face pale with nervousness. The judge entered the room, and David held his breath. "Afterreviewing all the evidence presented, I find that Linda is innocent of allcharges," the judge declared.
Linda let out a sob of relief, and Davidwrapped an arm around her shoulder. As they walked out of the courtroom, Linda turned to David. "Thankyou," she said, tears in her eyes. "I couldn't have done this without you." David smiled at her. "I'm just glad it's over," he said. "Now we canfinally move on from all of this."
