Triger warning: parent abandonment, mostly it's a heart felt story
My eyes fluttered open to see the plastic bassinet next to my bed. It took me a minute to figure out where I was and what had happened the night before. I smiled, sitting up and looked at the little blue bundle that was placed in the bassinet.
My son. My little peanut that had me up all night when he was dancing on my bladder or in the beginning when I couldn't leave the bathroom due to being sick.
I slowly stood up and walked over to him. I could just stare at his face all day. It still baffles me with the fact that he was inside me for nine months, but I didn't actually get to meet him until now.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" My brother asked, coming into the room.
I smiled at him. "He's so beautiful, Chase."
He chuckled and walked over to me. "I don't know. He kind of looks like Aunt Edna."
I punched his arm. "Leave him alone."
Chase rolled his eyes, but I could see how he admired his new nephew.
"Are mom and dad on their way?" I asked. "Everything happened so fast."
Chase let out a groan. "Oh my god. I really didn't think I was going to make it here in time. I thought he was going to be a car baby."
"Car baby?"
"Yeah, a baby born in a car." He said in a duh tone. "But yes they're on their way."
I nodded and laid my hand on the sleeping baby.
"Any word on-"
"No." I said softly, not looking at my brother. "I told him while we were driving. I told him he was welcome to come if he cared."
I saw Chase tense up. "He gets you pregnant and then can't even be a man to his son? It's fu-fudging ridiculous."
I giggled at his non-cursing word. My brother tends to curse when he's upset, so him holding back was showing restraint.
"We are going to be just fine, Chase." I said looking away from my baby to look at my brother. "Did you get to hold him?"
Chase shook his head. "Allie he's so small I don't think..."
I waved my hand at him. "Come on, you're his uncle now."
I lifted the baby out of the bassinet and turned to my brother. I trust him because all throughout my pregnancy he was the one to help me. We read books together about babies. My parents lived out of town so Chase was the only family I have near me.
"God Allie." He said, looking so tense, afraid to move. "I know we read books on these things, but I don't know how we are going to do this?"
"We?" I said
Chase nodded. "Hell yea. Unless you want to move back in with Mom and Dad?"
I shook my head. I loved my parents, but they were a little too much at times. I smiled as Chase began to relax a little, staring at the baby.
Just then I heard my mother's voice.
"Oh my little baby." She cooed, coming into the room holding some flowers. Dad followed behind her.
Chase turned to Mom. She smiled and waved at my son. She then turned her attention to me.
"I'm so sorry I wasn't there-"
"He came really fast." I said with a laugh as Mom hugged me.
She kissed my cheek. "I'm so proud of you. He's so beautiful."
