My eyes bugged out of my head as I stared at the lettered grade at the top of my paper. Was this real? My hand immediately flew up in the air, waving over Mrs. Hart to double check before I got my hopes up.
"Mrs. Hart are you sure this is the right grade?" I whispered out in shock.
She laughed. Did she find this funny? I for sure did not.
"Yes Remi, this paper is graded correctly. I think you did a pretty decent job at backing up your points and proving your thesis. Well done, it deserves that A."
My mouth stayed open, looking between her and my paper. "That's amazing, Mrs. Hart. I can't believe I did that."
She grinned from ear to ear before placing her hand on my shoulder. "Don't ever doubt yourself, Remi. I knew you could do it once you put your mind to it."
I thanked her for her show of confidence just as she was called over by another student. I found my best friend's questioning gaze across the room. Raising my paper in the air, I pointed excitedly to the grade. She looked just as shocked as I did before shooting me a thumbs up and showing off her A grade as well.
The bell rang and we all hurriedly collected our books and piled into the hallway.
"Well who knew you had it in you, kid?" Trinity chuckled, ripping my essay out of my hands to see for herself. "Your turning into me," she claimed as we walked towards our lockers.
"Woah there, Trin." I grabbed my paper back. "Don't wrinkle it, it's going on my Dad's fridge tonight so I could rub it in Logan's stupid face. I need it in mint condition."
Trinity shot me a puzzled look. "I thought it was your Mom's week to have you guys?"
We arrived at my locker and I went to twist the combination lock. "Yeah it was," I paused, focusing on the numbers. "She kinda got sick again so our Dad got extended time with us."
"Oh I'm sorry about that," Trinity frowned, helping me put my books back in my locker.
"Don't be," I slammed my locker shut. "She'll be alright." I turned towards her and plastered a smile on my face. "Now how about Ashley's party next week, you coming?"
Trinity's sympathetic look shifted to a mischievous one as she threw her arm across my shoulders. "Obviously, it's gonna be so much fun. No parents, no rules...God I love Ashley."
We both chuckled as we made our way to the front doors of Haddon Heights High.
"Yeah and I was even thinking about asking Chris to buy me a bottle or two so we could really have a good night," I told her, nudging her side.
She gasped, "Do you really think he would?"
I shrugged. "Why not? He drinks all the time, I'm sure he wouldn't mind if his sister did the same."
She looked away from me with a doubtful look, scanning the parking lot for her parents' car. "I don't knowww, it's different buying alcohol for yourself compared to supplying bottles for a bunch of minors. He's not gonna like the sound of that."
"Well then maybe I just won't tell him," I concluded, plotting out some schemes in my head to get alcohol from my twenty-one year old brother.
"Remi!" My head shot up towards my name getting called. "Get the fuck over here!"
"Speak of the devil," I muttered to Trinity. "I gotta go, I'll see you next week."
"Okay bye!" She waved.
Just as I was running to Christian's car I remembered something very important. "Oh yeah, Trin-!" I looked over my shoulder but my feet kept going.
She looked up from her phone.
