DEATH

Dressed in a onesie —- one that gave the appearance of a wolf. You were only five at the time and that was the first time you've ever celebrated Halloween. Your parents were a bit reluctant but you convinced them.

And so here you were.

Walking around carrying a basket, you wondered if anybody would rescue your costume. Your parents walked on both sides of you. Your mom reaching out her chilling but soft hands, and grazing them against yours.

Halloween Night had just begun in your eyes but your sure your parents had.. other ideas. Your dad yawned every other hour.

Your mom would tease him, and they would get into a playful argument. Though you didn't care much for their problems when you knew you were almost there.

Way before you were even born —- your neighborhood had held a yearly festival for Halloween. This was gonna be your first year ever going so you had to make it perfect.

Your older sister, Maki was reluctant to go, she'd brag about how she was too old for Halloween and how it was childish.

You didn't really understand how could someone possibly be too old to celebrate.

'I mean she celebrates her birthday ever year.. why is that any different?'

Well it didn't matter you knew you were almost there when your mom swooped down and carried you on her back. Your mother and father were now in a full blown race.

They had always had a playful attitude, you would smile and laugh but Maki would react differently. She was always a bit on edge.

. . .

The autumn leaves decorated the concrete floor, orange lights flooding the area. People dressed in costumes — some look to be handmade while others were as simple as yours. You basked in this moment.

Your mother held on your hand tightly, she didn't want such a young child to get lost. Especially in such a huge crowd.

Your father on the other hand was eyeing the food booths, which smelled delicious.

The rich scent of cinnamon felt the air, you assumed it was probably from the fall drinks that could be found in almost every stand. As pleasing as it smelled, you felt compelled to sneeze every time you breathed it.

And there she was; in the center of it all.

Looking around curiously — a panicked expression on her face. Lips parted she looked as if she was going to cry. A young girl your age. Dressed up as little red riding hood.

Your parents were also panicked, because the second you saw the girl you ran towards her.

She had straight raven hair; exceptionally long, but it looked messy. It looked dark blue up close, she had a petrified expression.

You couldn't help but feel bad for her. Which is why you ran over in the first place. She glanced at you —- both of you meeting eye contact.

She looked at your costume.
You looked at hers.

You kinda looked like a duo.

Little Red and the Big Bad Wolf.

Your smile that day was brighter than you could imagine, instead of asking if she was okay. What you had originally planned. You asked her if she would be your best friend.
