PART ONE

The weather turned hail. The sky grew from shady azure to bold navy. December arrives. I am now sat on the couch with my sister, enjoying the drastic change in the climate. Very slowly, a white, crystal like snowflake sets its foot on earth. The raining stopped. One by one, the snowflakes follow into the muddy ground. Soon the ground turned as white as a sheet. How beautiful is that? I went to my room and got my favorite book from my hardwood bookshelf. The Time When Everything Arrives by Ella Ray. I've read this book over a twenty times.

I placed my book in the living room beanbag and went to the kitchen to grab some snacks for the both of us. I grabbed some pretzels left in the fridge and made us some fuzzy hot chocolate. Nothing but the sip of warm and milky hot chocolates filled with marshmallows is the best for a time like this. I went back to the couch, grabbed my book and continued reading chapter seven. My sister isn't interested in books unlike me. She grabbed some pretzels from the bowl and took a sip of her hot chocolate. She gazed at it for a moment and then put on her warm smile at me. Her name is Catherine. I prefer to call her Cat. She put on Netflix and started watching a German series with English subtitles. I'm Eva by the way, Eva Diaz. I am sixteen and I enjoy watching Netflix, reading novels and listening to songs. We live in Jacksonville, Florida. Apparently, our parents are not home. They are on a cruise to India, far away from Florida. For their job of course. We really do miss them though. Its a bit scary here as me and my sister are the only people living in this mansion.

Our parents didn't leave us all alone anyway. There is a friend of mine living right next to this apartment. Sam. His mother is one of the most kindest people I've ever came to know. FYI, I'm not that capable of cooking without any ups and downs. So, Mrs. Lumberg, Sams mother, is kind enough to provide us all the three meals. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Her food is always unusually tasty (and healthy, according to her). Surely, we could just order food through online services, but Mrs. Lumberg insisted. She says its not that safe to buy food from online apps. She also visits us every three hours to make sure we are okay. And also, she told me to ring her phone in case we need her for any emergency. Knowing her existence always gives me a relief. Anyway, lets come back to the present.

Cat started begging me to stop reading my book.

" Eva pleaaase, please stop reading, I beg you! Lets watch dark together! " said Cat giving her puppy dog eyes, quivering lips and a single tear. Oh come on! Who wants to say no when a cute little girl does this?

" Fine! Fine Cat, but please stop giving me the puppy dog eyes! " I said cheerfully. She gave me a small chuckle and put season 2, episode five of a Netflix show called D A R K.

We watched it until we heard a someone knocking the door. I got startled as we were watching a horrifying scene. I peeped my head through the window and found out it was Mrs. Lumberg, with our dinner. I answered the door and thanked her for giving us the food. We started eating our scrumdiddlyumptious dinner. I could feel the five oceans bloating in my mouth! Ah!

We reached the last episode of season 2, very soon. We were so into that show that we totally forgot how much time it has been. It was 12:00 am already! I suggested that we go to bed, but Cat protested. She told me that this was the very moment she anticipated for. And, I surely couldn't disagree. I wanted to see that part as much as she does, but what can I say? I promised my parents that I would act very responsible, matured and take good care of my sister. And, I hope it wouldn't hurt that much if we just finish this episode. Right?

Finally. The apocalypse. Wait for it. And then BAM!

PART TWO ( THE FINAL PART)

It gets interrupted by a news channel.

"Shoot!" I said. I hate it when this happens.

"Really, now?" My sister followed.

" A strange monster-like species found from Area 51 has escaped" said the news reporter." It was spotted wandering around in Jacksonville. Two bodies were to be found in Springfield, Florida. People living in Jacksonville are instructed to lock all your windows and doors. The police are on the lookout, but not any good so far. Further information and instructions will be provided by the police through the megaphone. Hear them out and don't forget to be cautious."

Cat clapped her hand to her mouth. Panic washed all over me. They were literally talking about the same place we are living right now!

I hurried and double checked if I have locked all the doors. I found my bedroom window open but I closed it immediately.

I came back to the living room and-

Cats gone!

I quickly searched her room to see if she was there but-

she wasn't.

Water filled my eyes. My senses seems to have gone numb. I wasn't able to move-I-I was like STUPEFIED!

I heard the creaking of a door. I got startled once again but this time it was literally like a jump scare! I thought I was about to pass out but then I found my sister strolling through the kitchen from our pantry.

" Thank goodness" I whispered to myself. I sighed in relief. I walked towards her and hugged her firmly.

We went back to our couch and sat there watching the news. No updates. I twirled my dark brown hair into curls, nervously fidgeting.

We waited for almost 5 minutes and then-

" The police seems to have found another body of a sixteen year old boy, Sam. He seems to have been wandering around the city looking for his mom, who at that time was not present at his house. When his mom came back, all she saw was his son drenched and drained in blood, claw marks all over his face and huge dark holes under his eyes. Their house also seems to have destroyed. His mom, Mrs. Lumberg apprised that she was giving food to her neighbors since their parents were out of station." said the reporter.

I got that feeling again as if I'm paralyzed. My mouth was dry, I was sweating feverishly and was shivering uncontrollably. Sam was a very good friend of mine. We have been best friends for like seven years. We helped each other out during multiple situations. Tears swam through my face. Lots of them.

I felt Cat stare my face. I had no strength to turn at her. I can see that she looked white. She looked as pale as me when I didn't manage to find her earlier.

Several minutes passed silently. I was still unable to move. I heard a knock on my door. I knew it was Mrs. Lumberg and I didn't want to open it. She opens the door easily. Now, I remember that I didn't lock the front door! I locked all the other but this one.

And, to my surprise-

It was the monster-thingy!

Cat gave an ear-splitting scream. I was not able to move as I was paralyzed with fear and sadness. Tears were all over my face now. I felt it come towards me.

AND THEN IT WAS ALL BLACKNESS.
