Mixed in with debris and rubble, I lay there panting. I try to ration my sweat to get the momentum to get unstuck from what appears to be a chunk of roof on my body. Placing my hands on the ground, I try to push up to be free of the pile. To my surprise I managed to squeeze out. For the first time I had a clear view of my surroundings. Nurses, kids, husbands, wives, they're all dead. Every last one of them.

I looked for any signs of escape. "An elevator would do wonders." If indeed they still work. Approaching the elevator shaft, there was no sign of it working. "Damn." There came a noise from one of the rooms. The door was slightly cracked as I opened it ever so cautiously, amazed at the lack of noise I left behind. First sight was a hunched over person. In a hospital gown, it displayed everything one would not want to see. The next thing I seen was equally as unpleasant.

"E-excuse me... Sir?"
The figure turned ever so slowly, showing off a broken jaw, bloody eyes and missing teeth. It was paler than the moon light and it sure didn't look like a friend.
The only response it gave was a low growl that sent shivers down my spine.
"Arrrghhh!"
It stood up from the body, instincts told me to leave right then and that's just what I did.
I said screw it and went for the stairs. Which, was darker than any place in the entire building. Feeling my way through, I cautiously took every step.
Phew! Made it. Thank fucking god.
I found the exit door and heard squeeling tires as I left. Still unsure of what the hell was going on.
The light blinded me. I had to shield my eyes with my hand to avoid blindness.
After a few moments of recovery, I seen the army vehicle that sped off.
Fuck. What next?
I knew what was going on... At least I think so. I had after all, been a medical surgeon at the place for five years now. Last thing I heard was...
Shit. This ain't happenin'

There was talks of a chemical spread through meats that was supposed to keep them "edible longer". Looks like it had the opposite affect. Considering it made all of them sick. Only ones safe were vegetarians or vegans if you will. I happened to be a vegetarian. It was included in America's trade with other countries. The after affect wasn't so pretty... It seems they bombed us, Pretty damn good.

That's where I came in. I had to try to detox some of these cases. Which proved unsuccessful time and time again.
This memory came back to me.
There has to be a way to fix this. There has to be a cure.

I thought as I looked around the flames and back at the hospital that now had thousands of patients spewing out of them. All after me.
