I must have fallen asleep in Joel’s arms because I awoke the next morning in his room. How clever of me. I sighed and rolled over. The huge clock on the small bedside cabinet told me that it was 10am. Thank god it was a weekend. My phone caught my eye. It was lying on the floor across the room. I silently attempted to wriggle out of Joel’s arms so that I wouldn’t wake him. Once I was free I padded across the room and swept the phone off of the floor. Three missed calls. One from my mother and two from Jared. Four texts; Two from Jared, one from Georgia and one from my mother. I texted my mum to let her know I’d be home soon, I then replied to Georgia telling her that ‘I hadn’t sorted it…I’d made it worse’ and then I began to type out a response to Jared. However I had no clue what to say. I sat there biting my lip and staring at the phone.
“What are you thinking?” Joel’s voice filled the room and my head snapped up. He was sitting up on the bed, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes, looking completely adorable.
“I really don’t know Joel” I replied sighing once again. “I really don’t know.”
Joel stood up and came and sat opposite me. “I know you love Jared, I won’t mind if you stay with him. You make a good couple…” he rambled on. I tried to say something but he placed a finger over my mouth and carried on. “Honestly Storm…don’t worry about me, we can still be friends right? Wait that’s stupid I suppose we can’t”
“What if I wanted to be with you?” I whispered. It was too late to take the words back. He looked at me with raised eyebrows.
“You don’t mean that” he said looking away.
“Fine” I Stood up swiftly and ran out of the room and down the stairs. I pulled on my shoes as fast as I possibly could. I heard him call my name but before he could say anything else I pulled open the door and ran down the street. I ran until I was home. I fumbled in my pocket for my key and hurriedly unlocked my front door. “I’m home” was all I could manage to shout before I climbed the stairs to my room. I threw open the door wanting to collapse on to my bed and cry to the sound of my favourite depressing songs. I rummaged around the room in search of my beloved iPod; I finally found it and carefully untangled the wires. I laid down on my bed, pressed play and just listened.
At about two I received a text from Georgia asking if I wanted to meet up with her. Within an hour we were seated in Starbucks, tucked away in one of the corners on a lush blue sofa. I explained everything that had happened and she tried to help me discover what I truly wanted. Gee was always good at advice. If I had a problem she was always the first person I’d turn to. She always knew exactly what I was thinking. We had a hilarious inside joke that whenever we said something similar or shared the same opinion we’d shout ‘”ONE MIND” yeah we were losers but we were awesome losers!
I sat with Gee sipping on my hot chocolate, I’d already burnt my tongue but the pain wasn’t as bad as my broken heart so I hardly noticed it.
“Gee, do you think I should tell Jared what happened?” I said staring into the huge mug. I had no more tears to cry but my head was still a mess.
“Well, honestly is the best policy! And he deserves to know. He’s a good guy” She replied softly, not wanting to hurt my feelings.
“I know” I groaned. Georgia changed the topic, attempting to cheer me up, we discussed the latest episode of ‘Glory Daze’ our favourite TV show. We could quote it for hours! After we’d finished our drinks we walked around the shops.
“Oh hey there’s Anna!” Georgia said excitedly. I hadn’t seen Anna in a while so I looked up with a grin on my face; my eyes swept the area and finally landed on her. She was with a guy.
“Oh my!” Gee said “is that…NO WAY” her hand flew up to cover her mouth which had fallen wide open. My eyes almost bulged out of their sockets. She was with Joel.
“I didn’t know they were even friends let alone…” she turned to look at me. My face was a mask. I showed absolutely no expression whatsoever. Well maybe a bit of shock. One minute he was declaring his love for me then he was holding hands waltzing around the shopping centre with Anna. One of my so called friends.
“Let’s follow them” I suggested.
“You sure?” Georgia replied with a cheeky grin on her face.
“Yup” I responded. We sped up our pace, attempting to hold back our giggles, yeah I was annoyed, confused, shocked but Gee and I were awesome ninjas! We followed them into a nearby shop and hid behind a shelf full of shoes.
“You stay here” Gee whispered “I’ll get the details” she winked and made her way towards Anna and Joel. I heard her say rather loudly “Anna! What are you doing here!” and I had to hold my laughter in. Five minutes later Anna and Joel left and I ran over to Georgia.
