Chapter 14- part 2

6 months later.

it was time, it had came the day that we were finally gonna do something about Minho's disappearance.
We had a whole plan constructed, and if everything went to plan, we would leave here with Minho safe and sound.

I was sitting behind a rock with newt waiting on what was supposed to be a train, passing through on the railways soon.
We sat there in silence, though it wasn't awkward, we just both had a lot to think about.

We both were put in charge of getting whatever carriage Minho was in of the rails. Which will make more sense soon..

"Think we can pull this off?" I heard newt say.

"Oh please, you survived a maze and WICKED multiple times. I think this should be like baby's first steps.. for you at least."
I said, checking behind the rock to see if the train was coming.

Over the 6 months me and newt had grown a bond greater than ever. We were becoming quite close and i wont lie, it scared me more than it should have.
Not because of our friendship, but because i had slowly developed a tiny small it's bitty crush on him in the past month, but i simply ignored it whenever i could.

Me and newt both stayed quiet until we heard train horns going off in the distance, along with shots. And a screaming Brenda.

"Here we go."
I said, getting ready to run.

"What if-"
Newt started, but i quickly interrupted him.

"No 'what ifs' this is your best friend, we have been planning this for months! Don't give up now!"

"But-"

"No buts either newt! If your scared to do this do it scared."
I said, before facing back out and paying attention to any queues as to when we were needed.

I hated to be so harsh but then again it wasn't my fault, i found out a few days after the attack from WICKED that Mary had died too. Though we only knew each other for a few days, the weight that was left with me felt like the weight of the world x2. And i can't imagine newt feeling anything worse if he loses Minho, someone he's known for at least 3 years.

Suddenly, i heard a screeching noise coming from the trains breaks, i quickly covered my ears until it came to a full stop, not even 100 meters away.

then a whistle was heard coming from Thomas, that was mine and newts que, i gave him a nod and we both headed towards the train and using gas and lots of power, to cut the thick metal clips holding the carriage to the tracks.

It wasn't long before guards started to flood out from the front of the train, and it didn't take a second glance for them to start shooting.

"Thomas! Are you positive its this one?"
Newt asked, shouting over the gunshots.

"Positive. Hurry!"

"Don't rush us!" I shouted.

Shots were still being fired as we tried to hurry up in cutting the cables.
A loud fan noise started to get closer and closer from above us. I looked up to see a WICKED berg hovering over the top of us, and a cable dropping down with a massive hook on the end, ready to be clipped onto the carriage to life it into the air.

"Newt! Y/n!"

Shots were still being fired and i was almost done when newt ran around and started to climb the ladder. Within a few steps on him climbing up the ladder, i followed, leaving our gas torches behind.

I was almost at the top when a hand appeared in front of my face, i looked to see newt offering me a hand up.
I looked at him with an 'are you serious' look before taking his hand as he helped me up.

"Charming." I said sarcastically, dusting my outfit from the rust and dirt from the ladders i was climbing.

"Aren't i just?" Newt replied sarcastically before be both got dragged down to lay on top of the roof by Vince as he spoke.

"Save your flirts and giggles for later, if you haven't realised our life is on the line." He assured, patting our shoulders and shouting to Jorge in the berg to get a more on.

The shots still fired as we lifted into the air, along with the carriage.
Everyone started to cheer and hug as we flew away from the shooting guards, flipping them off and shouting names at them as we laughed.

I sat on the end of the carriage as we flew past scorched mountains and abandoned cities, just trying to process what i had done in the past 20 minutes.

"I cant believe i done that.." a familiar voice sounded beside me.

I chuckled. "I told you that this would all work out."

"And i cant believe you were right" newt said smiling and taking me in his arms in a side hug, looking out towards the scorched dessert as we passed through.
