It all started after his high school life...

Cale’s Point Of View

As I was picking a university for my upcoming college life, I saw a flyer of a school called “Flint University,“ and what caught my interest was their special class, which eventually very few can get into. And to my knowledge, last year, there was no qualified student for that class.

I downloaded their online application form and decided to give it a try. I am confident that I will pass their placement exam.

On the day of the placement exam, I noticed that there were a lot of applicants trying to take the exam. It’s understandable, though; this university produces a lot of top-quality graduates. Getting in means your future is secured.

This university only allows 100–200 students to pass the placement exam each year, and very few can be in the special class.

Being in special education holds a lot of benefits; you will have access to all school facilities anytime you want. In addition, they will give you a badge, a sign that you are at the top.

Third Person Point Of View

Meanwhile, he was about to enter his designated examination room. He bumped into a tall and nerdy-looking guy. Since that guy is taller, he bounced like a ball. When he was about to meet the ground, a pair of hands held on to his hips and prevented him from falling.

He looked at him, and he noticed those eyes—a pair of hazel. His eyes whispered, “Have we met?”. He awkwardly moved to escape from the man’s grasp. He looked at him; he seemed shocked, and to his surprise, he just moved to his designated seat and said nothing at all.

If only I could smack him. He’s pissing me off. Such a jerk,”, I mumbled.

When I was about to confront him, our proctor for the placement exam arrived. The proctor eventually introduced himself.

“Hello, everyone! I am Mr. Simon, and I am your proctor for today. This is a 100-item test, and you have 60 minutes to answer. Just be sure that you will not commit any misdeeds while taking this exam; we have great security at Flint University. Once we catch you cheating or copying, you will be automatically disqualified from taking this placement test. Is that clear?”, Mr. Simon said.

After introducing himself, Mr. Simon started to give the test paper to us, and when all the examinees got their papers, he signaled us to start.

Cale answered every question easily and without fail or falter. He even decided to take a nap right after finishing.
After 30 minutes, Mr. Simon announced that students can submit their answer sheets expecting that the examinees finished a one hour exam in just 30 minutes. Cale, who has been resting his head on his desk, looks up at the teacher’s announcement and was preparing to pass his answer sheet.
Suddenly, a loud, earsplitting noise emanates from the public address system. Cale instantly reacts and covers his ears.

Cale then notices his co-examinees are still immersed in the exam, as if they did not hear the noise or the voice at all. As those words were being uttered, he noticed that the only person affected by this noise aside from him was the tall and nerdy guy.

“What the hell is this? Is this a joke?”, he muttered. “Please write your response on the back of the answer sheet.” The voice from the speaker continued. Cale then flips his answer sheet and notices a logo with the capital letter S printed on the back. “Whatever, I’ll just answer it”, he said, and he started towrite his answer on the back of the answer sheet.
He found it suspicious, but I still answered the question. After answering the question, he then took his test paper and passed it in front. He then asked Mr. Simon if he heard anything, and he just smiled at him.

He then strolled around the school perimeter and didn’t notice the time. He’s curious and has almost checked every classroom to see if there’s a radio speaker. He isnow leaving the school perimeter.

After he went home, he didn’t forget to call his best friend, Aoki. He took the entrance exam too. “How well do you think you did?” Cale asked, and Aoki shrugged. “Would it be arrogant to say a hundred percent?”. Cale laughed, unaware of the smile being sent his way. “How about you?”, Aoki asked before he swatted his own hand in front of himself. “Who am I kidding, you probably got the highest score!”, Cale chuckled but then remembered the strange ringing that he heard. “Did you hear a strange sound while answering the test?” Cale asked.

Aoki raised an eyebrow at the question. “No?” he answered confusedly. “Was I supposed to?”, he added. Cale bit his lip nervously. “I don’t know”, he mumbled.

Aoki could tell Cale was distressed and wrapped an arm around his shoulders. “Let’s go celebrate now; would you like that?”, Aoki asked his best friend.
