It was the dead of night when it happened. Two cries. Light years apart. The Past and the Future.

Paul and Athena are inseparable. This was common knowledge. From dawn to dusk they were together. In lessons, meals, and games. Nothing could tear them apart.

Athena was sent to Caladan as baby and had no memories of her parents or other family. She didn't feel as though she was missing anything however. Duke Leto and Lady Jessica gave her all of the parental love she could hope for and Paul provided her with companionship.

Paul couldn't remember a time with Athena and didn't want to. If it was up to him, they would be tied together. He felt a deep connection to Athena and would follow her to the ends of the universe.

When they were young, everyone found it adorable how Paul would follow behind Athena wherever she went, his curiosity and adoration visible in his glittering eyes. Athena would lead Paul around the castle, devising storylines and games. They were warriors on missions, pilots exploring the worlds, dukes and duchesses. They were anything they could ever imagine. For rank and power and duties don't matter to children.

However, as they got older, more mature, and started spending more time apart in different lessons, people started to realize how deep their connection went. Paul became increasingly protective over Athena, working harder in his combat lessons. Athena worked more with Lady Jessica, in order to protect and help Paul. It became obvious to everyone except Athena and Paul that they were in-love.

Athena was the calm to Paul's internal storm. She was comforting where Paul was harsh. Don't mistake that for weakness however. She was strong, with a firm, commanding voice and stubbornness to rival the stones in mountains. Both Athena and Paul had their strengths, they balanced each other out.

When the Bene Gesserit found out that Paul had a female companion, one who was powerful in the Voice, they rejoiced. Perhaps this was the answer they were searching for. They told Jessica to train Athena, separately from Paul. To teach her control and power. Athena was to never tell Paul. The Bene Gesserit always watched from afar, waiting.

So Paul and Athena grew up, stronger and stronger, their power boiling underneath the surface. They both started to have Visions. Paul, of a sand filled planet and blue eyes. Athena, of water and the sea. They never told Lady Jessica, though they always confided in each other. They trusted each other.

Then, life began to change for the two teenagers. The Bene Gesserit decided that the best course of action was to arrange a marriage between Paul Atreides and Athena Axton. The union was meant to improve the chances of a better and more powerful generation, but they never imagined it would become so much more than that. For the future and the past are always intertwined.

The preparations began. An arranged marriage in one of the Great Houses was no small thing. Lady Jessica insisted that their chambers were connected, so Paul and Athena had the entire east wing to themselves. Suddenly they had marriage etiquette lessons together and were bombarded by choices and decisions. However, Paul and Athena found comfort in each other.

They would spend hours in the dead of night talking, reminiscing about when they were younger and had all the freedom in the world. This obstacle had only brought the couple closer together.

It was decided that they would get married when they turned 18, which was still three years away. So, things started to relax. Until,

Arrakis.

When Athena and Paul were 12, they played a game where they were warriors on a war ridden planet, leading soldiers into battles.

They never imagined that their game would become reality.
