I'm sitting in my little alcove, looking out at the deep blue sea just past our massive back lawn. I'm at a house my parents rented for five nights over the summer holidays. Ben just came in from eating his dinner and dad is starting up a barbecue for our dinner. Mum is on her phone in her chair and the property owner just drove by in his ute. I walk over to the table I just set and pick up the strange rock I found earlier on today.
We had gone down to the beach through a trail across the road from the property. I threw my thongs off into the sand and ran to the water's edge. I waded in because I had shorts on and saw Ben dash in as well. He bounded and splashed around in the water, then rolled around in the sand. He looked like a Golden Retriever puppy. I get back onto the sand as Dad chases Ben around the beach. I look down and see a nicely coloured shell and pick it up for mum. Underneath the shell, there was a reddish, yellowish rock shaped like a face. I picked it up and put it in my pocket with a few other shells. I run off to a natural jetty of rock and went to some rock pools. There were tiny molluscs on the rocks and my foot hurt as I trudged through them. In the rock pools I expected to see nothing but a load of sand , but their was more molluscs and their trails. It reminded me of Crabtrack Cove in Fiji. I walked on to more pools, but the one I first saw was the only one with tracks in it. I came back to the first pool to take another look at the pattern, when the rock I picked up earlier fell out of my pocket into the pool with tracks. I bent down to pick it up when it began to glow. The water shimmered, and shimmered again. Suddenly all the sand in the pool flew up to the water surface and spun around like a whirlpool. I jumped backward in surprise and the sand suddenly fell again. I cautiously walked back to the pool and saw that the pattern had changed. It now had split apart into different squiggles that looked like runes. I decided to leave the strange pool and continue down the beach.
