Gandalf lets some light in the dark cave with his staff. The top glows, and a relieved feeling comes over you. Sam looks you in the eye and nods gratefully. You smile back.
"What are we going to do now?" Frodo asks to no one in particular. He stares at Gandalf questioningly.
The wizard turned away from all of you and says, "We have no choice. That it is which to go into the deep, dark of Moria and face whatever dwells there," he said grimly. "Be on your guard. There are more fouler and eviler things besides orcs in the world."
Silence. Then everyone began walking forward, slowly and cautiously. Legolas looked behind him to make sure Aragorn was there, after the incident with the horrible watery-monster.
"Are you alright, mellon?" Legolas asked, concerned for but a moment.
Aragorn nodded. "But..." he looked backwards to see if anyone was listening. "The girl...Amber. You like her, do you not?"
Legolas stiffened. "I do not know what you are talking about." He sprinted ahead, probably embarrassed his friend found out what was going on between you. When the ranger looked you in the eye, you also avoided his gaze, nervous he knew.
You walked forwards and caught up with Legolas. Noticing his worried gaze, you asked, "Are you troubled, Legolas?"
He sighed and looked at you. "The darkness of Moria bothers me. I cannot believe we are walking into such danger..." Legolas stopped. "But do not worry. I will protect you." He puts an arm around your shoulder.
You feel your cheeks go slightly red at this, but you do not pull away. A narrow, stone path leads through the mountain, twisting and turning all the time; roughly cut into the rock at weird angles. No sound but your own echoes through the passage. Aragorn carries a flaming torch to light the way at the back of the line; as the path is too narrow for people side by side and you and Legolas seperate.
Gandalf stops suddenly to peer down into the depths. "The wealth of Moria was not in gold, or silver but in Methral," he said. Staring downwards, you can see ladders and chains and buckets and all sorts of things hanging from the rock or leaning against the sharp stone wall. On top of that it was all cobwebs and dust.
After a long look down as far as the eye could see, we continued on. "Bilbo had a set of Methral rings that Thorin gave to him, before the great battle," Gandalf said.
"That would be a kingly gift!" Gimli excalimed.
"Yes. I never told you, but it's wealth was greater than all of the Shire," the wizard admitted.
The journey seemed to last for ages. You didn't know how long, but your elven senses told you that danger was ahead. You wanted to whisper to Legolas, but you didn't want to bother him and thought it would be best to keep quiet. It was freezing down underground, and Merry was shivering badly. You took off your cloak and wrapped it round him. He looked grateful, and whispered "Thank you," in your ear when no one else was looking.
You smiled, and then Legolas stalked over and linked his arm with yours. When Sam saw, he had a faraway look in his eyes, just then, as if he was remembering the past. Frodo noticed and nudged him before whispering in his ear. When you looked ahead, you saw Gandalf had stopped.
He was staring at three archways as if he didn't know which one to choose. "I have no memory of this place," he said.
"Are we lost?" someone said. There was no answer, just a deathly silence.
We all decided it was best to sit and wait until Gandalf had decided/remembered which way to go. Boromir started a fire and smoked his pipe with Aragorn while the rest of us sat in silence and let our guide think. It was so silent all of us heard when Pippin said, "Merry? I'm hungry."
You stifled laughter at this, and Legolas merely smiled weakly. Frodo turned right around, gripping the rock that he sat on. His blue eyes widened in fear as he saw what was down below. "There's something down there!"
You could sense the fear in his voice. Walking over beside him, you said, "It is Gollum. He has been following us for three days." Frodo looked terrified as he walked over to Gandalf. You onely hear bits and pieces of what they said, as the nearby fire you had set alight crackled loudly in the darkness and the two spoke quietly.
But all heard when Frodo sighed, "I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this ever happened."
