As soon as I walked out of the bed I drank a glass of water and roamed my puffy eyes across the kitchen, there are always eyes following me. Digital eyes. Yep, right now we are filming a reality show at our house and I'm so done with this madness.
I sighed heavily and headed to the bathroom to prepare for class. Right, finals is around the corner. I live in a busy city half my life and I desperately want to return to Korea. Take me back!
"Emry, eat some rice. Some people are noticing you're getting thinner and thinner." Eomma's soft voice warned me to eat more. I looked at my bowl full of cereal and didn't reply. She is sitting in the living room in front of the laptop eating a doughnut. Every year, we get to film a reality show at home. Exhausting.
"Can you sundo Ryem after school? I have to arrange a meeting later." Ryem is my little brother. A four year old that will grow up just like me. Miserable. He will turn miserable once he got a hold of the situation he's in. He's too young. He can't even choose who he wanted to be but I'll love him no matter what.
"Okay." I smiled with enthusiasm. It's always like this, you can't be sad nor have a bad mood when in front of the cameras. They'll get upset. If you do something negative the reviews will not turn out great. When I was throwing a tantrums once, the media bashed me and accused me of being spoiled and ungrateful. Isn't having tantrums as a child normal?
I ignored the moving cameras and went outside while the service is waiting for me.
"Hi manong!" I greeted the driver because there's still camera's installed in the car. We've past three blocks to arrive at my school. Atleast, in school there's no camera's around. My little amount of relief in life. A little freedom.
I entered the classroom like a normal student would do. No one cared. Why? They're all famous like me. We have to put on a mask everytime. We'll there are times that I am happy being famous and most of the time are not.
"Hi, I think you're too focused that you can't hear me." A doe eyed girl talked to me. She had her cute wispy bangs and looked more innocent because of her small lips. I see, she's the classroom's social butterfly. She seems nice.
I didn't say anything and waited for her to say what she want to say. She scoffed. "So does being famous means being a bitch?" Her smirk annoyed me.
My eyebrows suddenly furrowed because of what she said. Unbelievable. I even thought she's nice. I didn't mind when she left and minded my own.
"Emry!!!" A loud resounding high pitched voice caught almost everyone's attention is approaching to me. That's my bestfriend. She's also a child celebrity. We met when we're filming a sponsored commercial. Ever since she's inseparable in my life. She sticks out like a sore thumb but in a good way.
"Hi Aerin! I missed you!" I smacked her shoulder as a way of greeting her.
"Girl! I see sobrang busy mo this past break. Grabe ba." She bumped my shoulder and looked at me teasingly. She knows I hate filming the past week and she's sad I didn't get to hang with her.
"I give up na." I shoved my face on my table and looked at her.
"Help me." I faked a cry and she laughed at me then sat beside me. Aerin is on hiatus for 3 years now and I'm jealous she get to take a break. When's my turn?
"Why don't you ask your mom kasi to take you on a vacation somewhere." I furrowed my eyebrows while she's smiling brightly as if she'd suggested a great idea so easily executed. I've been begging for a break to eomma for years and she wouldn't even budge.
"You know naman it's not that easy 'di ba?" She pouted and laid her head on my shoulder.
"What should we do?" She asked teasingly. She knew me and eomma too well. She knows that I can't be allowed to have a hiatus or a break even. I don't know how to break that wall.
