"Sophie! Can you crawl to me? Can you crawl to Mommy?"
Sophie sat happily on the blue carpet, gurgling and giggling and trying to stick her fist in her mouth. Suddenly she started to cry. Her mother looked up at Sophie, and a shadow passed over her face. "Charles!"she screamed,"Their here!"
Just then the door fell down, and a man walked in through the cloud of dust. "I think you know wat we've come for," he cackled, grinning evilly.
"You can't have her!"she shouted. "And you never will!" She clutched little Sophie to her chest and tried to sooth her, but it was useless.
"The little one doesn't want to stay," the man observed "But before we take her I must ask you whose lives you value more, yours or Sophie's? Because if you don't hand her over right now, I'll take out my knife." Sophie's mother started to hand her over, but it was too late. The man slid the blade of his knife across Sophie's tender palm. Then he snatched her from the trembling hands of Sophie's mother, and was gone.
