'Pang Mok' is based on the South Korean Ferry Disaster of 2014.

On a trip to Jeju Island, the 11th grade students of Danwon High boarded Sewol .

What they did not know was that the captain had violated numerous safety instructions, even abandoned the device that maintains the ship's balance.

When the ship started to tilt to the left, the captain issued an announcement, ordering people to stay in their cabins.

Sewol sank in two hours.

Out of the 476 passengers, only 172 were rescued.

The captain was the first to be rescued.

But as for the students of Danwon, only those who chose to disobey the captain's orders survived.

A year later, in 2015, South Koreans still remember the deaths of the young teens.

And I remember too.

(While the sinking of Sewol was based on a true story, the experiences of Jimin and character names were created by the author. Thank you for reading!)
