Sorry for the late update. An error came up last minute so I couldn't update but it's here now and I hope it's good enough because I enjoy the story myself😁😌.
Jesse Gareth had always thought that for every action there should be a purpose, intentional and not. This was why Steve's call made him confused. Now everyone including Adeline even though it went unspoken thought Raelynn Green killed her daughter and was about to wipe Steve off to clear evidence.
These murders were premeditated, they took thought and time to map out, and surely the murderer would have made plans that wouldn't involve someone like Steve finding out so soon.
The killer was too smart, their compasses were everywhere and the possibility of the culprit being amongst the suspects was very high, this was a flop.
As much as Raelynn Green was not much of a good person, she didn't hate Steve that much and she couldn't pull off such a premeditated murder like this. She could kill, maybe but not whine them all this way. The woman lacked the patience for that.
He glanced at Adeline who sat quietly behind him at the back of Liliane's Jeep. He wondered what must be going through her mind at the moment. Usually, Adeline was dangerous and quiet but this was more sinister and personal to her. He felt Adeline knew something about Raelynn she wouldn't say anything about due to her nature and she was going to fight tooth and nail to see the woman go down.
"We've got eyes on the house of the caller, no movements." A distinct male voice came over through the dispatch phone.
"Detective Drummond?".
Lilliane and Gareth both stared back at Adeline, "Can I get eyes on top, Roger?"
"Copy that," Roger replied. "All units stand back and hold fire."
"Lilliane, I need you to do something," Adeline said softly that they couldn't almost hear her.
"Me?" Lilliane asked with wide eyes.
"Yes, you." Detective Drummond turned to Gareth, "I need you to get in through the back door, I'll find my way upstairs."
Gareth nodded and grabbed his gun carefully ready to move but Liliane was having none of it. "What am I supposed to do? She could as well shoot me too."
"Then it will be your fault and mine," Drummond said blandly. "I don't know any words that will hurt less but, you are bait and bait's bait."
Lilliane released a shaky breath stunned, "Do you understand that?"
She sighed at the former's silence, "She has never seen your face before and you don't even look like you work for the CID except for your barge. If you want to know what it feels like, start now, you'll be a lot more in the future."
She gave a small smile, "I'm giving you a chance at first-hand experience as my friend."
Liliane looked up and sighed before taking off her barge aggressively. "How do I do this?"

Steve had given up on help coming as fast as he expected. He had been hidden in the room bidding his time for the past thirty minutes. He needed a weapon and fast whoever it was, the help or Raelynn he needed to be able to defend himself.
He looked under the bed in search, an involuntary sigh escaping his lips as he found a baton. For whatever reason it was there and he was grateful. He stretched and grunted until he grabbed it. He picked himself off the floor and dusted his arms.
The windows in the room were open and so were the curtains. It provided too much lightning and he felt unsafe instantly. There was an adjoining room and he was certain that someone with an intent could easily spy on him, so he quickly walked over to the windows and dropped the curtains. The dropped curtains reduced the lightning to the barest minimum providing a comfort he didn't know he needed.
