Arc: this is home

rumor has it that there was a dream demon that had tried taking over gravity falls but was stopped by the Pines family. The remains of the dream demon was now only a mere statue in the middle of the dark forest. Countless people had tried shaking the statue's hand in order for it to be revived because they had lost faith in humanity. but when they were expecting him to come back to life, he didn't.

despite that, there were rumors that you shouldn't shake the statue's hand. you haven't heard the rumors yet because you had just moved in, making you clueless about all the things going on around here in gravity falls. When you left the door open in your apartment, your cat took the chance to run away.

it was so hot in the afternoon, you were already sweating even though you just got out of the house. you found out that your cat was gone, and that was when you started searching all over the house. when you find it 𝗇𝗈𝗐𝗁𝖾𝗋𝖾 𝗇𝖾𝖺𝗋 𝗒𝗈𝗎𝗋 𝗁𝗈𝗎𝗌𝖾, you made a conclusion that it must've escaped to the forest. you ran there hurriedly, worried so much that you forgot to bring a flashlight with you along with your own phone. I guess your cat was just that important to you.

"William!!" you shout, calling your cat's name. it was so hot but you were thankful it wasn't dark out yet. but your surroundings were unknown to you because you had never explored this far in the woods, ALONE. you heard a few jingles to your right and when you turned to look, there it was. your cat and its glory. it had its head up and looking down at you from a tree.

"..." you were silently staring at your cat, judging it's every move. the cat made its way towards you, jumping from branch to branch. The weird part was, it had yellow eyes with slit pupils. ".. don't run away like—" before you could continue your sentence, your cat sprinted for the other direction. you blankly stared at the spot it was in earlier before sprinting behind it.

you accidentally scratched your knee because of a tree branch and you fell forward. slowly but surely, you tried standing up. you have finally found your cat, you can't let it escape, will you? 𝗢𝗿 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻? After you heard that, you rose up from the ground rather quickly, ignoring the impatient cries of your scratched knee. you thought you weren't a people pleaser anymore, right? you thought you finally healed. but you were just 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀. like father, like daughter. (I hope this doesn't feel like a personal attack. it's directed to myself 🔥🔥.)

you lowered your gaze to your scratched knee. jeez, it looks so fcked up. you cringe at your bleeding knee and touched it. you had this weird habit of itching your scars and trying to peel them off. but you had no time to do that right now and dashed to where the direction of your cat went. you were tempted to peel your scars off because of how disgusting they looked, but you kept going. (someone once told me this was self-harm but idk what to believe anymore??)

Eventually, you reached a place where the buildings weren't visible and was less noisy. infact.. there wasn't a single sound and it startled you rather than calming you down. your eyes averted left and right, there wasn't a sign of your cat anywhere. you felt a slight tug on the hem of your shirt, but you saw nothing except for a triangle statue with a single eye and a bowtie just below its eyes wearing a top hat with its hand sticking out like a handshake.
