By the time that the submarine neared the bottom of the mountain, Law had shifted the majority of his weight onto the railing, straining to see as far ahead of them as possible. He couldn't help it, the world settled before him was the one offering him his revenge. After years of working towards it, he was finally staring it in the face. It would have been stranger for him to have been able to tear his focus away from the approaching seas in that moment.
Which was precisely why when the ship crashed into the waters at the base of the mountains and sent most of them sprawling on the deck, it sent Law pitching over the front of the ship. The expression on his face in that moment Kana would later note was rather comical. It was one of complete disbelief. As Kyou scrambled to his feet and stared out at the open sea with unconcealed shock, Kana predictably burst out laughing.
"An' 'e thinks I'm trouble!" she declared. "'ow lame!"
Kyou, just barely keeping himself from panicking, spun around to grab her arm and point towards the sea.
"Kana-chan, you have to get him!"
Calming down slightly, she gave him a single, raised, questioning brow.
"Why the 'ell should I do that?" Kana questioned.
If the situation hadn't been so serious, Kyou might have dropped his hand into his hand at that comment. For someone who thought so highly of herself, her lack of knowledge of what most on the ship would consider common knowledge was quickly becoming infamous. Instead of allowing himself to sink into despair over her incredible level of ignorance, however, he took a deep breath and dragged her to the railing, pointing in the direction where he assumed Law to have fallen. All that was visible of the man was a number of bubbles traveling to the surface.
"Captain can't swim," he explained, much with the tone one would use in explaining a serious situation to a child. "I can't either. You have to get him out!"
She blinked a few times, glancing between him and the water, her mouth dropping open in an almost comically disbelieving manner.
"'e can't?"
"Dammit, Kana-chan, get him before he drowns!"
"Don' yell at me!"
"Kana-chan!"
"I'm goin', I'm goin'," she grumbled, drawing herself up onto the railing. "Jeez, and he calls me trouble. What sorta pirate don' know 'ow ta swim, hm? A stupid un, that's what."
Then, before Kyou could yell at her again, she launched herself into the water. The instant she was beneath the water, she snapped open her eyes. As she peered through the crystal clear water, she spotted him a moment later. Her lips pursed, she propelled herself through the water until she could seize a hold of his shirt. Then, grateful for the strength built up through years of work, she began dragging him up to the surface. The moment she reached the air, her eyes began to sting. Forcing this to the back of her mind, she waited for Kyou to throw down a ring to help drag her out of the water.
By the time that they had Law sprawled out on the deck, many of the crew members had made it to the level and began crowding around. As Kana threatened to thrash any of them if they didn't give Law some air, Kyou sat about checking to see if he was even breathing.
"'ey, if we 'it 'im on the back, won' tha' make 'im cough up the water?" Kana questioned the moment she had everyone backed-up.
Kyou glanced up at her, his expression mirroring his wonder at how she thought that would work.
"... probably not."
At that same moment, Law began coughing on his own, water bursting from his lips. Instantly rolling Law on his side, Kyou simply waited until the end of fit before rocking back on his heels.
