I heard that drowning is a painful process,
That it is very slow,
And you can feel your lungs being filled with water
And may God help you
If it isn't even fresh
If it is concentrated brine
Then water travels
From your skin ,
your heart,
all of your internal organs
Until equilibrium is established
And you are a shrivelling mess.
I heard you can feel your body organs shut down
And you can probably count
The seconds you have left
Like begging death
To get on with you already
Let us not forget
The burning sensation you get in your eyes
when put your head under sea water for a bit
Because of a stupid game
Who could hold their breaths the longest?
Imagine that
But you never have the opportunity
To take another breath
To know what not pain feels like
To know the weight of the water above
Is pressing down on your frame
To the deep abyss
Of the forgotten sea
To know that the living don't survive
Except if you are a shark or a fish
But they have a predator prey game to play
Imagine the fish greet you on the way down
Like giving small high fives on your shoulder
And probably a shark will see you
And not open wide
Imagine these mysteries
The thoughts of persons from the titanic
Who were counting
But for selfish reasons
They never came back and told us
What it feels like to drown.
