I sat on the bus, staring out the window and trying to ignore Flash's quiet taunts. My teacher was super nice and always stood up for me when she caught him bullying me and she believed in my internship. She didn't think it was more than a few taunts though, so she couldn't do much about it. He didn't dare be too loud, but he still took full advantage of the situation.
We were on a field trip to Stark tower, and I was miserable. I mean, sure, I was an intern there. Tony's personal intern actually, and that meant I had top level clearance and I even knew the Avengers, but that was my dilemma at the moment. Happy had a problem with people carrying two cards, so I would have to use my usual card, which meant Friday would greet me as usual. Whenever she greets someone, she says their name, clearance level, and danger level.
Ned, who was sitting next to me, noticed my despair and elbowed me in the side to get my attention. "Think of it this way," he said, "Harley will be there."
I perked up at the mention of my boyfriend, who lived at the tower, before slumping again. "Ned, it's a school tour. He'll be in the penthouse, which no one else has the clearance to."
He frowned thoughtfully. "Maybe he'll come down to visit?" he suggested.
I rolled my eyes. "He doesn't know. I avoided telling any of them about the trip."
"What? Why?" Ned asked, looking disappointed.
I knew he wanted to meet Bruce, so I felt slightly bad. Slightly. I said, "Because it would be a disaster if they knew, Ned. They would constantly attempt to sabotage the trip, just to frustrate me."
He still looked disappointed, but he agreed that that would be bad.
When we reached the tower, the driver parked in front of the main doors and everyone started unloading, chattering excitedly. I waited to get off last, thanking the bus driver on the way out. She smiled at me and told me to have fun on the trip. I honestly doubted that I would find the trip the least bit interesting, since I had been everywhere in the tower before.
After we were all gathered in the main lobby, a tour guide that I immediately recognized as Amber came towards us. Amber was the gossip hub of the tower. She had informants everywhere (I was sure Harley was one, but I had yet to prove it) and knew everything that went on, from crushes to projects to flat out drama. She was the go to for reliable information around the tower.
I groaned quietly. Knowing Amber, she would ignore the fact that I was on a school trip, which meant I would receive a rundown on everything that happened since we last talked. Who won the bet about Lacy and Harry, the latest project that blew up, and more.
I didn't mind that usually, but today I was on a field trip with my class. I made my way to the very back of the class, trying my hardest to remain unnoticed. Amber began calling people to get their badges, going down the attendance list. She stopped about halfway through and a smile started creeping up her face, "Peter Parker," she called. "You didn't tell me you were coming with a class today."
"Uh huh," I started, crossing my arms as I stared defiantly at her. "Why would I tell you? You know very well that if I told you then everyone in the tower would know by the end of the day, including Clint. He's been waiting to get back at me since I slimed him a week ago, and I would prefer to not get pranked on a school trip." Vaguely, I was aware that I was acting a lot different than I am at school, and my class was staring at me weirdly.
"Fine," she huffed. She continued to pass out the badges until everyone had one. Then she said, "Alright, everyone. Let's get this tour started!"
She led us to the security gate and explained how to scan our badges on the way through. MJ went first, Friday saying, "Michelle Jones, guest level clearance, danger level 3. Welcome, Michelle."
Next was Flash, "Eugene Thompson, guest level clearance, danger level 1. Welcome Eugene."
Everyone else went through, with similar results, the danger level varying from 1 to 3. Ned and I had waited until last, and Ned went ahead of me while I pulled out my badge. After he went, it was my turn. I didn't hesitate as I scanned my badge, not needing to check if I was doing it right like the other students had. Friday said, "Peter Parker, full access, danger level 9. Welcome back, Peter."
I sighed, glad she called me Peter instead of one of her other names for me, including Mini-Boss, Little Spider, and such. "It's good to be back, Fri."
"Shall I alert Dr. Stark of your arrival?" she asked.
"No!" I practically yelped. "Don't let him know, please Fri."
"Sorry, too late," she said.
Amber was laughing at me and my look of despair, "That's karma, Parker."
I frowned but followed her into the elevator. I went to the far corner and Amber followed. She started telling me everything. Turned out, she did win the bet and Lucy was the one to make the first move. The new engine they had been working on blew up again, and Anna threw a wrench at Leo when he messed with her stuff. I interrupted her about the engine, offering a solution that I was sure she would relay to the others.
