How it's GoingTwelve years later - January 12th, 2023
I never allowed the sun to beat me up and over the years I had to practice what I wanted to become and that was a wife and mother who would wake my loved ones up to breakfast, their clothes ironed for their adventures of the day and packed lunches if need be.
That was my way of showing them my gratitude and love, something I never had as a kid and I was grateful to be able to do so everyday.
I didn't want to be my mother, I didn't want to give my entire self to my husband that I forgot that I was a mother first and especially with me raising two beautiful little girls who needed to feel love at home first before they went out into the real world and search for it somewhere else or in someone else.
I dared to be different everyday of my life.
Looking over at the beauties that Adonis and I created with the help of God, I smiled at them and placed their breakfast in front of them which consisted of smiley face pancakes, sausages, hash browns, grapes and sliced up apples as they sat down at the dining room table. "Who wants to say their affirmations for the day first?"
My ray of sunshine, Sunny, excitedly raised her hand ignoring her little sister who was trying to pull her hand down. "I am strong, I am beautiful, I am black, I am proud, knowledgeable and courageous."
"That's my girl." Adonis cheesed walking into the dining room and as he leaned down and kissed Sunny's forehead before doing the same to Autumn and last but not least, me, his wife.
Adonis and I got together after my eighteenth birthday and before that it took him a year to even warm up to the idea of me and him potentially being together.
Throughout that time, I spent majority of my time learning the ins and outs of his mafia and even dabbling my hand in a little bit of cyber security but later found out that I was no use in the field so I sat back and watched.
The Dons Mafia had been a generational business that focused mainly on cyber security or technology, busting human trafficking rings and hitmen services.
I had learned that Adonis was initiated as the leader on his fourteenth birthday like the other men before him. He was raised by his grandfather who was no longer with us and he'd lost his parents to a car accident when he was just one years old.
It was crazy that we both were raised by our grandparents instead of our parents and I prayed that as long as I lived, my girls would have a two parent household and get something that we never did. It ends with us.
"My turn, mommy!" Autumn clapped her hands excitedly bringing me away from memory lane.
Waving my hand towards her as Adonis pulled me up from my seat and onto his lap where he nibbled on my neck. "Sorry, go ahead, munchkin."
