“So, you’re the rookie, huh?” Chris says as he eyes me from head to toe. Apparently, I’m a girl from the Special Operations Unit and here I am, working with the legendary founders of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Agency, also known as the BSAA, Chris Redfield. Being in the military runs in the family and I am the first and only girl in this generation to enter in the Special Forces since most of the past generations have boys in them, including my father. I won’t let the military strain stop because of me.
“Um, yes… Alec Corrigan, sir!” I saluted, inhaling up all the air I can.
“At ease… We need all the men we can get… Err, women… Uhh, never mind.” Chris added as he rubs the back of his head. “Remember this, even if you are a girl, this world won’t go easy on you…”
“As I took upon this badge, I was willing to give my life, sir!”
“She’s got the spirit, I’ll give you that..” Piers Nivans says as he whispers to his captain. Chris smiles and nods in agreement.
“Alright! All of you are part of the Alpha Team now! Nobody’s expendable!.. And we are not leaving any soldier behind….” Chris finally gives the go signal for everybody to follow him.
I gripped my Assault Rifle tighter. The load of the gun weighed upon me. Not as much as the guys would complain about the weight, I found it a bit hard. The bulletproof vest suffocated me and the helmet trapped the oxygen in my head, making me dizzy. Altogether, it was still a miracle I got in the Special Forces. I could barely run with all these equipment and armor weighing me down.
“Hey, you alright?” Piers says as he notices me slowing down behind the group.
“.. Yeah… Just a bit tired, that’s all…” I replied, the light of the sun blinded me for a bit.
“Already? We’re not even in China yet…”
And he was right. China is still a half-a-day-helicopter-ride away. And the remaining resistance of Jua'vo that survived six months ago from Edonia are still hunting us down on the way to the barracks. Like Chris said, this world isn't gonna let up easy. Persistent bastards.
“Ugh! This stupid helmet!” I said as I slung my gun behind me and removed the safety buckle on the protective gear to let all the trapped air out.
My black hair flowed freely in a ponytail as I finally let out a sigh of relief. On instinct, I grabbed my gun back again, this time, I felt a million times better.
“You sure you’re not gonna need that?” he says as he notices me putting it away.
“Nah. My mom says I’m always a hard-headed person.” I replied, trying to make a laugh.
He let out a chuckle, surprisingly. I smiled as I made him so. OK, honestly, I could die for this guy. He’s maybe one of the reasons why I persevered in the hellhole we called, “training camp”. And I’m just one of the lucky bastards to get grouped with the guy (not to mention that this hottie was the number one in class).
“Finn-- I mean, Corrigan! I need you here!” Chris’s voice rang out as it broke my stupor thinking about Piers. "Try to get this out of our way."
Finn? Who was this Finn? I looked at Piers and he looked glum all of a sudden. I asked him about it and he replied with a soft voice, "Finn Macauley was one of our former members of the Alpha Team... You got his place."
"Oh, um.. I'm sorry..." Was the only thing I could say.
"Corrigan!" Chris boomed in front.
"Roger!"
