"From now on, you will be known as Willowmoss." The dark grey bengal she-ca's heart stopped. The shadowy figure standing atop the HighRock outlined in golden sunshine swayed before her eyes.
"I'm a... spark?" She whispered, eyes burning. So all that pain, all that dreaming, all those tears were for nothing?
"for three days, you will serve Cougarspot until she sees fit what you will do with the rest of your life." TreeQueen's voice rang out across the throng of cats gathered in the camp's meeting place. Great. Willowmoss thought bitterly. Sparked to a warrior I hardly know. Her breathing became fast and shallow with disbelief.
"Okay, Willowmoss." The dark grey bengal wirled around at the sound of a voice. A pretty, smooth-furred she-cat with blazing, lidded, greenish yellow eyes stood. "Time for the sparking ceremony."
The sunset stained the waterfall a bright, burning orange that shone so bright it stung Willowmoss's dark blue eyes to look at.
"Let this she-cat be forever bound to her clan!" Cougarspot shoved Willowmoss into the amber pool. A spark flew from the waterfall, leaving behind a trail of embers. "Let her remember her place through the scars that will be burned into her very soul!" Willowmoss felt a burning pain sear up her flank and meet in a point at her jaw. The smell of burning fur and melting skin assaulted her nose, leaving a scar that would remind her permanently of her fate as less then nothing.
