Juliet rushed to her computer as soon as she got home. She pulled the folded piece of paper Dwayne gave her out of her pocket and typed his username into the search bar.
"Dwayne_Darkness_91" she mumbled out loud as she typed.
She let the cursor hover over the "add friend" button
'I don't want to seem too desperate' she thought.
She began scrolling through his profile, it was plastered with pictures of some guy with a mustache and airplanes. A rock song played as she scrolled down through his page.

she laughed at his use of emotion and scrolled to the top of the page. She took a deep breath and hit the "add friend" button. She let her breath go and closed the page, sitting staring at her computer background. She got up and paced the room, looking around at her bare walls.
'I have got to get some decorations soon' she thought
She imagined a poster above her bed, maybe of Cillian Murphy or Christian Bale. She pictured magazine cutouts on the wall above her desk and a calendar. Her mind filled the room with the life it was lacking. She heard her mother downstairs and assumed she wanted to hear about her first day of school. She walked downstairs to the kitchen where her mom was putting groceries away. She started helping silentlyHer mom smiled when she saw her "Hey honey, how was your first day?"
Juliet walked to the cabinet and put away a box of cereal "It was alright"
"Did you find all your classes alright?"
"I only got lost twice" she with a little laugh
"Were the people nice?"
"Yeah. The school assigned someone to be nice to me for a week"
Mrs. Fullman laughs "Really?"
"Well she was assigned to show me around and make sure I didn't get lost but she also let me sit with her at lunch."
"Well, that's nice. First day and you already made a friend!"
Juliet rolls her eyes "I wouldn't say friend."
"Why, was she snotty or something?"
She shrugs "I wouldn't say snotty, but definitely more popular than I'm accustomed to."
"Well keep an open mind, honey. People can surprise you."
"Yeah maybe. I'm gonna walk to the library"
"Okay, your dad gets home at 5:30 so be back before then"
Juliet walked to the door and began putting her shoes on "alright."
With her book bag slung over her shoulder, Juliet opened the door and walked into the hot sun. The library was a mile away and a 25-minute walk. Juliet had made this walk many times during the summer, spending many blistering hot afternoons in the cool surrounded by books. The library was a large beige building with a wide staircase adorned with two lion statues. She climbed the staircase and quickly entered the building. Her feet crunched on the blue carpet as she made her way to the fiction section. She had previously read 'The Stranger' by Albert Camus and was dying to read 'The Myth of Sisyphus'. As she turned into the aisle she saw Dwayne, crouched down, looking intently at the books in front of him. She quickly backed up into the adjacent aisle and began weighing her options. Talking to him would most likely result in her embarrassment, ignoring him would give the wrong impression, and leaving the library altogether would mean she wouldn't get her book. She took a deep breath and reentered the aisle, Dwayne was now standing looking at the back of a book.
