Prologue

Summer getaway

It's the month of June, and the drizzling rain outside is heard from the small window. I started to undress and change into my one-piece swimsuit. ''come on Evie, we need you this summer. Stop being so cozy and go out and be adventurous again'' said sandy

I sigh in reply to her words. It's the end week of June and summer is approaching. I would love to be with them but, I want to rest. I've been into many summers in my life. but this time I want to spend it alone.

''This the third summer you skipped Evie, come on What's wrong with you? I thought we will race surfing again; Evie please just be with us again this summer.'' Sandy pleaded as she continued following my moves.

She extends her hand to reach my back and zipper my swimsuit. ''I don't feel like celebrating summer, I want to spend my summer cozy and not thrilling.'' She turned her back to me, and I was obliged to zip her swimsuit.

I thought she would say anything again to persuade me but I only heard her sigh. I face her with my stern face and surprise to see the same expression from her.

She grab her towel as a sign of defeat from me and walk out, I followed her outside. There are some people in the swimming hall, mostly girls. Chitchatting and waiting for their favorite player.

We assemble quickly as we heard our coach whistle ''good afternoon coach'' we greeted in unison. ''afternoon ladies, do a quick warm-up and form a six group after'' said coach martin. ''and ah I'll be back, I gotta grab some food'' and he quickly walks out of the swimming hall.

''patay gutom talaga yang si coach no, hindi pa na busog e ang laki laki ng tiyan'' aby said and laugh hard from her remarks. '' some of us laugh '' Bloated lang yan si coach, hirap siguro tumunaw'' Kelly said and all of us laugh, but I notice sandy seems off. I move closer to her and elbow her boobs.

''what!! she spat'' I rolled my eyes. ''come on, sandy don't be such a pussy''.

''I'm not though, you're the only one who's such a pussy, because you don't want to be with us because you tried to forget the last summer we had.'' she turn her back to me.

''stop assuming things, sandy. I'm not trying to forget anyone, I just don't like to be on the beach again this summer, nakakasawa din.'' She walks away from me, and so I followed her.

I tried to do some hand stretching as well while I tailed her. We both stop from walking, malayo na sa grupo nila aby. We started to do some more stretching. I didn't receive again any response from Sandy.

''you just don't want again to be in that paradise because it reminds you of your sunburnt heart'' I heard her whisper something but just can't seem to grasp it.

Tumayo ako ng maayos and face her '' look sandy, I'm sorry if I can't be with you guys. It's not that it's my choice but I am grounded from my summer getaway, my parents won't allow me this time again, Sandy''

Her mad face soften when she understand what was my excuse all about '' you know you are a fucking summer fucker, don't you know that'' I sigh. '' your excuse is lame, since last last year'' ''I waaanntt to be my summer cozyy this time sandy, i want to rest frommm the thrill'' she make a face and exaggerate everyword she said, while mimicking my excuse.

I roled my eyes in response to her. '' it doesn't suit you, you know Evie, your excuse is not you, I've never seen you cozy, you always wanted thrill, exploration, and fun. So, it's hard to understand your excuse, we didn't know you that way. That's why I don't believe you but still I give in.'' We heard coach martin whistle, agad naman kaming nag buo ng grupo. umling siya habang lumayo saakin. 

Every group is composed of five members, and I'm in the group one, aby is in the group four the rest are in their own group.

nag lakad kami papunta sa harap ng pool ''your excuse expired last year, we won't take no for an answer from you, Heron and I will help you with your parents so we can have a summer getaway.'' Napa tingin ako sa gilid ko, she's with her stern face.

''if you'll beat me in the first lap, I'll go with you, and if not, then my reason is valid.'' I said as I walk past her.

Coach Martin asks for a volunteer to go first for the first lap, and naman akong nag volunteer. ''alright best girl you go first'' sir martin command. ''and for the other team who's the first representative?'' he ask.

Pansin kong lahat sila ay tamad sa training ngayong araw kaya medyo mabagal ang pag tugon nila kay coach. I look at sandy if she  would race her hand for the first lap. Pero mukang walang balak na bagbigyan ang gusto kong mangyari.

''si sage saamin choach'' the person from group two announces. '' ang iba ay parang nag tutulakan pa sino mauna. Narinig kong summinghap si sir martin.'' Fine, Ako nangalang pipili, come on girls what happened to your spirit for swimming'' nag lakad na nag kamot ng ulo si choach papunta sa gitna.

''Evie Lydia,casey,Sandy, and aby kayo ang first lap'' parang gusto ko tumalon dahil napag bigyan ang gusto kong mangyari. I saw sandy race her eyebrow at me, at may sabay pang pag ismid. I smirk at her in response.

''pumwesto na kayo girls' I look at sandy again para hamunin siya, but when I look at her our eyes never meet. And I know for sure she's serious. knowing sandy pag ayaw niya manlalaban siya. But right now, she didn't. that means we are on a game right now.

I heard our coach whistle, and everyone jump ''fuck!!'' mura ko I was preoccupied medyo na huli sa pag baba sa pool. '' No Hindi pwedeng ma talo ako'' I whisper.
