Backstory: Zion is the son of Zordon, the one who recruited the first Power Rangers team. Zion was born before the events leading to Zordon being inside a tube and when he got older he crafted ear muff like machines to stabilize his human form and decided to travel the universe to find his father until he sees the wave if light that was used to defeat all evil in the universe signaling his father had to be sacrificed for the greater good. He hears of what his father had been doing and decided to follow in his footsteps to train the next generation of Power Rangers.
