Thawk! My knife hit center of the target,it was a perfect shot. I kept picking up more and more knives and throwing them at the different targets . Pretend their Peacekeepers,Clove. That's what I kept saying in my head, thing is,I absolutely hate Peacekeepers, even though most are from my District 2, I still hate them. They killed my father. My father was caught killing a pigeon when my mother and I where on the verge of death dying with hunger. That night we ate it he was killed by Peacekeepers. As I threw my last knife I decided to head home to my mother. I grabbed my jacket and just when I was heading out the door of District 2s training centre, I was stopped by one of the trainers,Sam. "You did great today Clove, well done." I managed a small "Thanks" . "Good Luck tomorrow!' he said just when I shut the door. Tomorrow! The Reaping! The Reaping is where the snotty Capitol people pick one girl, one boy, between the ages of 12 & 18 from each District of Panem to get thrown into a arena to fight to the death and one comes out,a victor. This is what I am training for. Only districts 1,2 and 4 get to train because we are thé wealthier districts. These districts were always winning, because the stronger teenagers volunteer for the weaker ones. On my trip home I passed the Victors Village, this was where all Distrct 2s victors live. The bakery, the shops and I always saw the Masonary workers coming home to their families . Finally,I got home. My mother had prepared a small dinner for us 2 . I adored my mother. I decided to go to bed early that night, because tomorrow would be a long day.

I got up that morning feeling tired and nervous, not a good start to the day. Because I was 16 , this would be my 5th Reaping Day . My mother had laid out a so called fancy dress for reaping day. I hated wearing dresses, I just wasn't one of those girls. Like some twits at my school. I didn't have a lot of friends at school, most of my friends I met at the training centre where I spent most of my time. I had only 1 friend , Casandra . Though she was more skilled in throwing axes. I once had a friend called Luke before I met Casandra . But 3 years ago when I was 13, he got picked at the reaping and died in the arena. Suddenly, my mother came in. I was already dressed by then. My mother handed me a sliver locket. "A token of good luck" she said . Inside, there was a picture of my father and Luke. I started bawling, which was strange,I never cried since my dad died. My mother came and sat with me on my bed until my crying faded. She left me to finish dressing. I pulled my hair up into a ponytail and crawled downstairs for breakfast. My mother made a hot soup. And then it was time to go outside the Justice Buliding where the Reaping took place. When it was time for me to go to the 16 girls section my mother whispered to me "Listen to what your heart tells you" and with that, she walked off towards the adults section.

When everyone was lined up it was time to pick the tributes. Cana, the Capitol women who picks the tributes out of a glass ball sturted up the steps onto the stage "Good Morning Everyone! And may the odds be ever in your favour!" she said in her high-pitched silly Capitol accent . After the video of the history of Panem , she announced "Time to pick the tributes, lady's first!" She cleared her throat just before she said the name of the girl tribute "Clove Burke!" . What?! That's me ! I was having mixed emotions whether I wanted to go into these games or not . I figured no one was going to volunteer for me. Your a career I thought to myself, you could win this. I put on my brave face because no one would want to be me ally if I was bawling at the reaping. I walked onto the stage. It was time for Cana to pick the male tribute. "Kevin Tocoat!" she shouted. He looked about 13,he was small and weak, a bit fragile too. Someone from the 17s male group shouted "I Voulteer!". Out walked a muscular and handsome guy. Cana asked him what his name was . "Cato Kidman" . I clenched my fists when I saw him,I hear he was trained to be a Peacekeeper,I dont like Peacekeepers. Cana then dragged is inside the Justice Building. We got to say our last goodbyes to our family and then we where shoved into a fancy Capitol train on our way to the Capitol. Just when we got into the train we were shown our cabins we were told to get some rest. I took a shower and crawled into bed, tomorrow we would be at the capitol.
