as the sun slowly dipped under the horizon and disappeared behind the city sky line, the cocktail-blue sky was painted an array of oranges, pinks and soft lilacs.

with the winter's sunset accompanying the city's rush hour, the golden-tinted streets were disrupted by the rude honks of impatient drivers and the bustling chatter of students and adults alike clogged the air like an intoxicating cloud.

although, nowhere near as intoxicating as the thick cloud of smoke which was puffed from the lungs of a certain red-haired boy who stood leaning against the brick wall of a quiet convenience store located in a less-busy area of the city.

the boy's heterochromatic eyes were glazed over with a daydream of sorts as he watched his cloud of suffocating smoke slowly disappear into the already-polluted air of the city he lived in.

his thoughts had completely taken over his mind making him miss the girl with h/c-coloured hair who casually stood to his left while sipping on a fresh carton of strawberry-flavoured milk.

the girl's e/c-coloured eyes repetitively flickered over the taller boy's face and she engraved his bothered expression into her mind as she finished her drink without taking a break from it before she lowered the straw from her lips and tilted her head slightly to the side.

"what's on your mind, vin?"

her voice was soft so as to not frighten the dazed-out boy but when he turned his head towards her and their eyes met, his mismatched ones narrowed to a glare and a thin stream of smoke slithered from between his lips as he spoke in a low, slightly-strained voice. "i told you not to call me that."

the girl simply blinked off the boy's intimidating glare that was sure to scare away anyone besides her and she tossed her finished milk carton into a nearby trash can without moving from her spot before she shoved her hands into the pockets of her baggy jacket and brought her gaze back to her friend. "what's bothering you?"
