1. The Empire's History

Since the beginning, the empire was strong but got overtaken by the joint efforts of their surrounding enemies.

One man created a legend with his strong power and leadership. Rebuilding the empire to be stronger and better.

He was the first uncrowned emperor of the new empire.

Because of his beliefs and responsibility, he believed a human civilization should be rules by humans.

So he did what he should behind the scenes and formed a tight bond of brotherhood with the human emperor.

But this did not diminish his role and story told in history.

Instead, he became known as "The Dragon Emperor".

The relationship between the human emperor and dragon emperor was known to all in history. Only the true details are passed down to the royal family and the only archduke.

Dragons live longer than humans and have more means of preserving history and relics. But they have low birth rates.

Only after hundreds or thousands of years will there be a newborn dragon.

If there's great luck, a new dragon would be born before the previous dragon dies.

If unfortunate, a baby dragon will be born alone to grow up by itself without someone to guide them and teach them of the world.

So the royal family became responsible for being friends with newborn dragons and teaching them.

Except slowly, after many generations, human nature reveals itself to be horribly cruel and greedy.

Sometimes there would be a generation in the royal family that mistreats the dragons and misuse them for themselves.

Although the empire still stayed strong on the continent, they could never be as strong as when they have a dragon.

With the treasures, relics, wealth, and knowledge of the dragons hidden and concealed away from human eyes.

The empire deteriorated.

People became suspicious.

The surrounding enemies started to pick up on the weirdness and awkward situation of the empire's royal family.

So many people prepared to test the waters to see if their speculations are true.

And the truth was finally exposed to the world.

The empire no longer had the dragon's protection.

Not to mention their protection, even being their most hated enemy is a possibility.

After all, written in history, dragons are known for their loyalty on those they have acknowledge and trust.

They are strong and domineering.

A single dragon is comparable to a god for ordinary people.

To make matters worse, the magic tower got involved in this matter and release the whole truth about the dragon's mistreatment for generations.

Clearly, the dragons never gave up on their grievances and collected as much evidence they could to expose the royal family.

So the royal family fell and a new era of the empire began again.

This time is another family with close ties to the dragon.

Although their relationship were not as public and known like with the royal family. Any upper class family with a long history knew they were much closer.

This family is infamous for being strong enough to contend and spar with the dragons.

They were often known for fighting together on the battlefield and enjoying wine together.

This is mainly because this family seemed to have Fenrir's blood flowing through their veins.

Rumor has it that they can't transform like the dragons do but their body contains almost infinite power and frightening fast recovery.

But some say the family is cursed.

And on certain nights, people have to run and evacuate the whole estate of the family and never approach a single family member.

Only a dragon can come close to them without harm.

This family as the new royal family, made the empire prosper again and stronger without the reliance of a dragon.

But their whole family has made a blood oath at the beginning of their rein to find, protect, and respect the future dragon generations.

So now years have passed and no dragon egg has been found...

Or so the world thinks.

In fact, from the very beginning, the dragons had entrusted this family with their dragon egg and made a blood oath of their own.

This way, the dragons will never make the same mistake again and are safe.

It was just that as friends for every generation, this family has taken it upon themselves to help relieve some of the hatred of the dragons and helped them get revenge.

This made the dragons of future generations more grateful and fond of this family. Fully supporting them completely in the shadows and no longer revealing themselves.

So many dragons were born without the people knowing and they have become important figures of the empire in each generations.

But due to their unchanging appearances and age, they have to retire early. Which most didn't complain because they felt free wandering the world.

They often return to the empire to leave their dragon egg or just a simple visit.

Until the most concerning generation of the dragons appeared...

While far away somewhere unknown and uninhabited, a dragon that's holding a dragon egg panicked because it felt its lifespan draining early.

With no time or power to send the dragon egg back to the empire, it could only use the last and all of its power to send an emergency signal to the empire's royal family.

Meanwhile, it found a very hidden place to hide itself and use its body to protect and hide the dragon egg.

This way, even if it dies before help arrives, maybe its hard scale and touch body can protect the egg from being stolen, eaten, or destroyed.

Actually this is unnecessary because a dragon's eggshell is one of the hardest material in the world.

Even a holy artifact can barely make a scratch on it.

But due to familial love, this dragon can't help but worry about the baby dragon that hasn't been born yet.

Because for some unknown reason, the dragon felt that this dragon egg is the most special dragon egg in all of history.
