" an unexpected, unwelcome visitor. "

"WHAT IS YOUR relationship with the patient? Family? Friend? Fiancée? Wife?"

I'm asking myself that too.

But I go with the easiest option, at least I think.

"Wife. Please, let me see him." I say with a hint of eagerness in my voice to try and convince the nurse and it works. I sigh in relief and she gives me the room number. 1001.

I waste no time heading there, quickly finding the nearest elevator so I can get to the tenth floor. A tall doctor is waiting next to me and I give him a small smile, he gives me a smirk in return which screams to me 'You're cute'. I chuckle awkwardly, realizing I have to stay in an elevator alone with this man.

Thankfully, the elevator comes after a few seconds and I get in, the doctor presses the fifth floor and I press the tenth before stepping back and awkwardly waiting. I can see him in my peripheral vision taking glances at me and I just fiddle with the present I have in hand. We reach the fifth floor and the doctor moves but before finally stepping off, he glances at me and flashes the name tag on his white coat.

Dr. Adrian Fiorisce, M.D., Chief of Cardiothoracic. I scoff the second the elevator doors close. If Rainer finds out about that small interaction, this hospital can consider their chief of cardio fired. I smile to myself at the thought of how much power, or just money, Rainer holds.

The elevator dings and I'm finally at the tenth floor. I step forward and wait for the doors to open and run into a few nurses when they do. My eyes scan the placards of the regular rooms that are in the area for patients. 1020, 1019, 1018, and so on. The list never ends until I finally reach the largest room at the end of the hall and, of course.

I should've known Mr. Ruthless would book a private suite type of room. It's a plain, wooden door with no window on it unlike the other rooms' doors, my gaze shifts to the golden placard parallel to it and it reads 1001 with a slide in namecard that has his name.

I scoff before knocking twice on the door to announce my presence, my hand reaches for the doorknob and it's unlocked so I let myself in. I open the door and my eyes widen at how big the room actually is. There's an L-shaped couch, coffee table, and a small TV placed on a stand on the left side. And on the right is a closet, king-sized hospital bed, a singular chair, and a door to the bathroom.

Rainer is laying down, asleep, on the king-sized bed. I didn't even know that was possible until this moment, but, if we're talking money then anything can happen. I can't help but watch as his chest rises and falls with each careful breath he takes and only now do I realize the condition he's in.

A part of his forearm is wrapped in a bandage and the left side of his forehead is covered with a bandaid. His expression overall looks exhausted and even though his lower body's covered with a thin blanket, it's obvious his leg is clad in a cast of some sort. I only feel more bad as I approach him slowly.
