I'm Not Foolish

I traveled beside Sakura, and Kakashi was on the other side of me. Yamato was behind. I was sad that I had failed yet again, but I knew I had to keep my feelings to myself. I had no right to tell everyone what the truth of Naruto really was. All this time, we've had no idea what his past held. 

I still don't know. 

The forest was wet with rain, and the sun started to poke out from behind the old rain clouds. We didn't happen to talk much. But what was there really, to talk about? Naruto was still gone, and I was still here. Nothing had changed at all.

I remembered Tobi's words well.

"He holds something inside that changes him. His anger comes from that. The beast he holds inside is the entirety of his suffering. You, who's already been accepted, has no right to tell him what to do. He can't forgive your village. And because of that, he is useful."

"That means you're just using him!" I shouted back. He chuckled.

"Yes, and he knows that too. He prefers being used and exacting revenge rather than forgiving all of you and being shunned." He said haughtily.

"But he won't be shunned any longer!" I try to reason.

"Yes, but all of those years were too much for him. He can't forget about it." Tobi was very unreasonable.

"Tobi, tell me why he left. He was okay until that one day with that mission!" I pleaded.

"That I cannot tell you. That is something you must find out om your own. But a hint, I shall give you. Look in the archives of your village, and you'll find out. Trust me." Then he teleported out.

We ran into the village gates, and there were the Konoha 11 plus Sai.

The Konoha 11 were a group formed after Naruto left, and it deals with village problems. We have not been called together for a lot of things, but Naruto was always the exception.

"He's gone, isn't he? You let him get away!" Kiba looked at me, and accused. I nodded.

"You're a fool. Naruto was wide open. He took down Danzo, and after the 5 Kage summit, he was weak. You could've finished it there." Shikamaru shook his head. I knew they had finally worked up the courage to kill Naruto, but  I couldn't let that happen.

Naruto just had to come back. 

But I guessed that would never happen. If it did, he would be coming back to destroy the village. And that's were I'd fight him, to the death.

"I'm not foolish," I say with confidence. "I'm just a ninja who wants his friend to come back."

And on that note, I walked away, closer to my empty home.
