Lan Xichen would laugh at people if they were to say A-Yuan is not as intimidating as his father.
Ever since Lan Yuan was born, he has never been away from Wei Wuxian, it was normal of course, every child has a special bond with their mothers, and this bond—it’s strong that you cannot break it so easily, even if his nephew were just a baby.
Babies were usually easily bribed, can be bribed with anything, but he thinks in humour that even his brother was hard to bribe before. Like father like son, Lan Xichen laughs as he observes the people that try to take A-Yuan’s attention away from his mother.
A-Yuan is just part of Wei Wuxian, he’s the same as Wangji, always near Wei Wuxian, loves Wei Wuxian too much, and would protect Wei Wuxian. A baby like A-Yuan can certainly protect—though not as much as what Wangji can do, it’s still his type of protection.
Like glaring, or slapping people….
Oh dear, he’s definitely Wangji’s son!
Many people would send compliments to Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian about how cheerful and kind the youngest lan is. How he seemed to be a kid who’s not fond of frowning, or making sour faces, he would be a boy who would grow up with a smile too! Strangers who don’t personally know them would say, typical of them too, because of course A-Yuan would be like his mother! He would be a smiley boy! But it would be hard to say if he were away from his mother for longer than a few hours.
‘Ah.. if they could only see him when he’s sleepy..’ Lan Xichen sighs, how he managed to survive his nephew’s glares is something indeed.
While it is true that A-Yuan is a very cheerful and kind baby—more than what a baby is expected to be!—Lan Xichen’s amusement comes from the fact that A-Yuan can be the most intimidating baby ever. And it shows when he’s sleepy and protective of his mother.
His brother sure glares, quite hard, and even when he was young he would be one who could stare at you with a cold glance—Lan Xichen thinks that A-Yuan could even beat his brother when he was still young.
Lan Xichen has seen A-Yuan throw numerous uncharacteristic tantrums to others, he could deal with those really, calming babies comes with watching Wei Wuxian do so even when they were younger, so the easiest option for them to calm A-Yuan is to give him to his brother-in-law.
But in his humble opinion, there is something you shouldn’t do when you encounter this type of A-Yuan (the sleepy and near on having a tantrum type of A-Yuan);
You should never separate him from his mother when he’s sleepy.
Having been subjected to what he thinks is the first intimidating glance was the nerve-racking thing that happened to Lan Xichen.
He only wanted to check if he could try and put A-Yuan to sleep, Wei Wuxian was joking with him that he should try, saying that maybe A-Yuan would slowly be used to other people tucking him on bed and maybe read a bedtime story to him; Lan Xichen seemed a little hesitant, he knew A-Yuan is close to Wei Wuxian—very close—but he did have little confidence.
The moment A-Yuan glared at him probably broke that remaining confidence he had.
Heavens, he really is glaring at me! Lan Xichen was in awe, at the same time he was kind of nervous, how come this nephew of his had a more intense glare than Wangji?
He looked at Wei Wuxian, ready to laugh it off but his brother-in-law was suddenly cooing at him—
“Aiyoo, okay okay I won’t let go, don’t whine baobei, mama won’t go,” he continued to fuss as if he wasn’t glaring at Lan Xichen!
